Myself being out of work...I try to save money and make money however I can......and I needed a good Y-Block for my `55 Customline. A friend had this `62 F100 unibody rusting away in his driveway along with about 7 other old trucks, and the city told him a few had to go. It had a GOOD 292 Y-Block with 312 heads, that was rebuilt shortly before it began it`s rest in his driveway, and a 9"...along with a few...very few other good parts.

I paid $300 for it plus $40 for a tow.

One phone call and I had the 9" sold for $150.

One trip to the junkyard yielded $45 in s**** metal, the next trip yielded another $45,and I have one more trip left tomorrow morning thats about the size of the last 2 combined....soooo that should be roughly $80-$90 or so.

And I`m pretty sure I have a couple of the smaller items sold already too.

So if you guys want a free motor...and possibly end up with a negative balance into it...well this is how!!!

That's similar to how I got the rear end in my Dubble A truck. I was given a '70s Ford half ton, and once I cut all the parts off of it I needed, I s****ped the rest of it for almost $100!

I try to do stuff like this as often as I can.

Um...couldn't have listed it on Craig's List, Ebay or somewhere else and gotten $340 for it, plus get to keep the Y-block? Even rusted, Unibody Ford trucks are pretty desirable. I'm not real impressed that you sent 45 year old vehicle, that's an uncommon and even popular body style, to the s**** yard in pieces for a measly $300.

At least it wasn't a shortbox with the big window. He would have really wasted something good then.

Always remember-----research first-torch later. You could have cleared 6-8 hundred, saved something rare or some rare parts, and had a free engine. Thanks, Lyman.

Wow this is utterly stupid. A (rare) unibody which is hard enough to find with a super rare big back window. And you cut it up for $90 in s****. Way to go man.

Its funny how this turns into a bashing. I tried to give away a 57 more door chevy and everyone said they wanted it, well 1 year later after storing it I cut that ****er up. I still have parts left. Anyone need a top, rear doors etc. ?

I've got a 82 S10 I got for the frame. Save it before I cut it up, all offers considered.

guys....this truck was extremely rusty.....even the frame had holes in it....someone even patched several holes in the floor with steel plate that already had rusted themeselves....along with about 50 lbs of bondo in it....trust me....if I felt that the truck was restorable I wouldn`t had done it....not a single body part was salvageable.......the roof even had big holes in it...the windshield posts....the dashboard even......it was GONE.

I still have the back window BTW...i`m not stupid......even the bravest souls would have turned there backs on this one if they tried to rescue it......

And look at the good side....it`s already helping put atleast 2 more vehicles back on the road.....a `55 Customline and a `55 F100....

Agreed! Looked a lot like mine, minus the big back window. It was a basket case too, but I managed to save it. But that's just me. ;)

It's hard to tell from the pics, but the doors looked better than mine. Did you save them or s**** them? They're uni-specific.

I'm glad you kept the back window. That was a good move. Did you keep the entire back half of the roof too? If so, it could be useful to someone looking to do a big back window conversion.

I must admit it pains me to see that truck cut up, but in all reality it's not that rare. There's plenty of them out there. The back window is what sets it apart.

The doors were horribly rotted...entire bottom 6" were gone...what you see that looks like good metal is just paint holding the rust together.

Roof was rotted so bad the window was ready to fall out.....trust me guys....the truck was best used for parts....

You know its bad when you have paint holding parts of the thing together!

Yea people like to ***** when you s**** something out. i had a merc up for sale here for ever and every where else for that matter. after 5 months of trying to sell it i got sick of it being in the way and away it went. Some times there is just no saving them from the rust. You did it right man thats how i like to buy all my motors now. i get to drive em before hand and then cut the **** up and make some more cash back.

It is surprising how many cars and trucks are available just for hauling off. I got a Chevy Silverado with a 454 in it that way. I just wanted buy the engine and the guy told me I had to take the entire truck. When I said OK, how much he replied "you have to take the whole truck"... free if you haul it off.

All about it when getting a motor from an 80s car, but theres a lil difference between that and a 50 Merc. Didnt it hit like $800 on ebay? Why not relist? Shame to see what happened happen. 1 less Merc. :(
