Who here is a dealer for either?

What are the costs of each?

Are the Dearborn Deuce rails already boxed?

    Pros/cons of each?

Eric (vaphead) at Riley Auto sells American Stamping rails I beleive.

he's listed in the Alliance vendor area.

I'm not sure of the differences between american and dearborn though.

    Harrison,

Maybe PM HotRodDrummer (Matt at Ionia Hot Rod Shop) on this, I know they have used both and have an opinion on it.

I have a set of Dearborns (that Ionia put together in a frame for me) and I like them a lot. But I am not familiar with the American Stampings.

Mine did not come boxed, (Ionia ended up doing it with their boxing plates), but they may make boxing plates also.

No VAPHEAD is a dealer for the Dearborn rails, $650 plus free shipping when I bought mine. They are not boxed but are C notched. When I put them in the jig they fit the jig guide posts perfectly without clamps.

Yup,I sell the ol' dearborn rails. Now currently owned by JW rod garage.
I am one of their largest dealers.
Free shipping doesn't work on the rails.(unless your Dug)
We get a very good rate from UPS frieght on shipping them.
If you buddy up and have several sets sent the cost goes done per pair.

You can see some pic's on my site. www.riley-auto.com
Feel free to PM me any questions.

Can you explain why you like them better ? I can get ASC rails cheap, but if the JimWeimer Garage rails are better, I'd like to know the differences to determine if it is worth the extra $. Thanks.

  9. The dearborn rails are just straighter and therefore easier to jig. Takes a lot more jigging time to get the ASC rails where they are fit to start adding crossmembers, etc.. Just the way it is.

Used Weimer because straighter, C notched, boxing plates were right on fit. Join the Alliance and check with VAPHEAD.

I've still got two sets of ASC rails left and when they are used up the next order will be for some Dearborn rails and I'll get them from Ionia. Having the C notch already pressed in saves about 4 hours if you take your time and really do a first cl*** job making and installing the notches. Being retired I've got all the time in the world but along with retired comes LAZY and that 4 hours can be used for a nap or time on the HAMB.:)

My experience with JW is that they bolted in my fixture without any problem ,only minimum leveling. As Fab 32 stated, less work and graceful Cnotch , a plus . It may be my imagination but seems to weld smoother.. Just my opinion

HAs anyone else seen a length problem with the JW rails?

I had a table that was built in the 80's for original ch***is. If you lined up the front spreader bar holes in jig, as well as the bottom fender holes, the rear spreader bar holes were off 1/2 inch.

I like them both but if you are gonna step box the rails then go with the ASR becuase they are not inset like the JW, the JW u are stuck only boxing to the outside.

The good thing about the JW, they have all the holes including the bottom of the frame fender holes. You can recreate a stock 32 ch***is real easily

the last 3 ch***is that I have built have been JW rails, very nice quality, minor tweeking on the to pand bottom rails, etc but not bad at all

BUt to conclude I will be using ASR fro here on out probably

My shop has boxed several 100 pairs of ASC rails. I got used to the problems and how to solve them. We did a swept C notch from the beginning which added hours to the job to make them nice. My 10 year employee who did this moved away this spring and I ran out of the stash of rails I had him do ahead. I ordered several pairs of JW rails boxed by them and am very pleased with their appearance. I will report back when I get them on the table to build a ch***is.

Daydreaming about the next step in my '30 Roadster build, think I'll go for the JW rails. Shipping will add a lot to the cost, hope to find a local vendor , or meet one at a swap meet/show this season. What would shipping be to the 06877 Zip Code?
