The American Southwest has a lot of aircraft junkyards, motorcycles, and rust free sheet metal. One would think that all these things would congeal in the hot rod world, as the parts would be there, and the opportunity for these things' paths to cross would come up hundereds of times a day. Let's see some pics and great examples of this, whether or not you're from the Southwest or not! ~Jason
No real pictures but I have lots of aircraft hardware and have incorperated many ideas from the aircraft world. Anywhere I have a bolt and nut I use blind nuts riveted to one side, no need for a wrench to hold the nut. I also have many inspection panels for access to components under the car. The seat I made is the same style as the seat that was in my Luscombe 8A. Being an A&P mechanic I like the idea of ease of maintenance as we had to inspect the aircraft I worked on every 3 days. I figured out one night at work the 727 we were working on had traveled over 10K miles that day, and it never left the USA.
The access panels are a great idea! You'll have to post some pics, or maybe a Tech Week article! FYI: This is a plane like he's talking about: ~Jason
Here in AZ we used to be able to go the the airplane yards and buy what ever we wanted. Now they have become real hard to deal with and some will not even answer the door when you knock to see if they will sell you anything. alot of the yard now will just s**** eveything since the price of s****e is though the roof right now.
The amp and oil pressure gauges are WWII era aircraft.....I think??? The amp gauge says Westinghouse...."U.S. Navy Type".....did aircraft have AMP gauges????
The Golf Bag access door usually between the right door and rear fender on late twenties/early thirties "Luxury" Roadsters and Boat tail Speedsters comes to mind for the access door use.
If you email me some pictures and tell me where they go in your tech article, I'd be glad to insert them for you and post it. ~Jason
I also am a big fan of the aerospace influence on any thing that I own... Unfortunately there is nowhere in metro Detroit to find any aircraft parts so salvage..
I picked up a small plate that has "RCAF Test Set Fire Control System", going to find a good switch for it, hmmm maybe an airhorn or linelock.
Kaletta Air s****es a lot of aircraft stuff up here they simply take it to the local s**** yard here. You might check around River Run, I think thats where he works out of down state, to see where they take there junk. I was in the local s**** yard yesterday and stumbled across three complete 747 nose gear ***emblys.
Jason, Go about 26 miles east of KC and there is an airplane boneyard that has been there for years.....I sold the owner a GIANT truck a couple of years back and he was going to run it on "Jet fuel"........hahaha....... Chris Nelson
No ****? I'd like to check that out! Do you remember the name, or what town it's in? If I can get to the town and fine a convenience store I can usually get directions. A thing like that would tend to stand out. ~Jason

That sounds like a good thing, thank you! I am finishing up on a few apps- got 61-70 Caddy's, and early postwar Plymouth's, Desotos and the like.
