an old family friend just called and asked me if I wanted a Hemi.as far as he knows it's a hemi out of his dad's old 58' imperial.he said it say's "Imperial" on the valve covers.I believe that makes it a 392.he said it's complete, carb to pan.it's missing one of the sparkplug wire covers.don't know the condition of the engine.needless to say,I'm excited as **** to go get this thing.I'll post some pics as soon as I get it.

****, if he asked if you want it, tell him yes and give him a firm handshake and a pat on the back for it. It will be a 392 if it's from a '58; value can really vary depending on the condition of the motor. I'd give at least a few hundred bucks for one that need a rebuild so long as it doesn't have any extra holes in the block.

I agree completely squirrel.and the fact that it was a gift from good freind would keep me from selling it anyway.just curious.as a matter of fact,I can already picture opening the hood of my nomad and seeing a nice fat Hemi.:D

Like he said, value will vary with condition. If it's a good used engine, then it's worth over a grand, if it's a pile of rust (like that Desoto hemi my friend found) then it's not worth much.

  6. I happen to have one wire cover. Send me a PM with your address and I'll send it to you no charge to make your day complete.

  10. Tee hee!! I get a little thrill too thinking about the look on Chevy lover's faces when they see the spark plugs where God intended them to be - right in the middle of the rocker covers!! :D

Those wire covers are lefts and rights. You need to figure out which side you need. Congrats.

  12. If it is a good complete 392 - then it is probably worth around $2500 these days. I see them go for $2,000 - $3500 all day long on Ebay. They are getting harder and harder to find in a complete and stock condition -- so you are one lucky ****er!

Make sure you get a bill of sale, marked paid in full. Even if no money changes hands. Especially from friends. :)

  15. That is true for the Dodge engines with dimpled valve covers and the lettered covers for DeSoto engines, but not the case with the Chryslers engines. The Chrysler hemis use the same plug wire cover for both sides.

Well,I picked up the Hemi.it wasn't as complete as my buddy thought.looks like it was left outside for a while too.checked the dipstick and seems like it still has oil in it.didn't see any any water on it.looks like some crust in the valve cover area.I'm sure it's still a viable engine.my buddy said he can guarantee 100% that it has never been rebuilt.so.....I think I got a killer deal....FREE!
