I've flown down to the Round Up twice and love every minute of the weekend but Paso has been tempting me for years.Could I even find a room anywhere near the action?By the way- I am way more into Kustoms than rods.
I'm sure the Lonestar State crew will have their say, and they are en***led of course, but the answer would be Paso.
Now that we know someone is gonna live there very soon we can drive out to the Round-up.. right "borndead"????
Been to the RoundUp the last two years and Paso for the first time this year. It would certainly be a VERY tough decision to have to make now just to chose one. Thankfully I should be able to do both again next year as well. You should try to do both BUT if you could only choose ONE next year, and you've already been to the RoundUp twice, I don't see why there would even be a question. You should of course choose Paso, then, and only then, will you be able to choose which one is best for you for the future. ....or do each of them every other year. To tell you the truth Paso kinda felt like Austin, there were so many folks from there in attendance.
They are both unreal !!! You really cant compare. They are the best in there on way. I love the drive from Texas to Paso but the drive from Dallas to Austin SUX !!! I vote for both of em ...
Paso hotels **** and it ****s spending the big bucks to be there...but then again if I drive to Austin it takes about $500-$600 just in gas...then $50 bucks to park in the park for one day show....plus a room and drinkin....It's hard to justify droppin 1500 on a weekend of fun. I rode my chopper to Mexico for the El Diablo run and spent about $500 for a 4 day weekend and had waaaaay more fun. Guess it all matters where your priorities are. For the car shows....I'd say do both one one year and the other the next. Then build a bike and go get drunk in Mexico with a couple hundred of us biker types!
Paso needs the Shifters party back.... The show is second to none. the drive there,, the town,, the cars,, but for me, it's always been the after events that made it Paso.. this year without the A&W,,, without a Shifters party, without a major focal point after the days show, it was kind of a ****tered weekend. ... but I'll be back next year, no question.
I went to Paso for the first time this year and it was crazy. Lots of cool stuff to see, plus you could visit some old friends.
Ive been to Paso for 15 years and went to the Roundup last year, Austin was good but no comparison to Paso. Driving north or south on 101 freeway is beautiful, driving through Az and Southern New Mexico and west Texas blows!
never been to the roundup. bit of a trek from the S.F bay area. paso however, will NEVER be missed as long as I'm breathing. when I die my ashes will go for one last time. I will have to watch this thread.... Texas is a loooong drive in a 76 volvo with many hundreds of thousands of miles. and no ****ing money.... but if the roundup compares to Paso I may have to go. sleep in the car, beg for burgers at McDonalds, siphon some gas. sounds like a good time to me.
everyones got the spectrum on this one been to Roundup for the past three years and i wont miss it for the world (hell Austin only a hour drive for me) but the wife and i are planning the Rod Vacation next year and its gonna be either Paso Or Viva kinda leaning toward Viva cause im thinking bought making the marrage official this year and viva would be an awesome honeymoon but then again ive heard toooo many cool things about Paso so its gonna be a tuff decision
What a tough one, seeing the replys so far, its easy to see its a matter of where you live that dictates a lot of the decision, Paso has all the beautiful scenery to enhance the experience, it is more costly and limited for accomodations as well. The rides are unbelievable and the weather is usually A-1. The Round-Up is really a different experience with a scene with a ton of great music and garage crawls that set it apart as a exciting time. Travel through the spring weather scene can be tricky and the traffic getting in to Austin is a little challenging but can be remedied by staying off the loaded freeway. The show itself is very entertaining with a lot of hotrod culture vendors, music, and a few more home built style rides. Choosing one would be subject to your personal tast and ability to get to the event . They are certainly two premier events for sure, when you see the kings of Austin at Paso that sends a message as well, and always California cats at the Round Up. Both are winners!!-Sololobo
Been to Paso every year since 2003, when I moved here from England. Have plans to go to The Round Up maybe next year...But Paso is amazing.
It seems to me there's a lot of apples to oranges comparison being done here. We've been to the Round Up a few times and I think it's difficult to find a better weekend of car activities. To us, the Round Up is much more than the Saturday show. It begins with the anticipation of the weekend itself. The road time getting there, the springtime drive in Texas with the paintbrush and bluebonnets everywhere, thinking about the BBQ, but mostly seeing friends and acquaintances we've made from years past does it for us. We can't wait to get to Reggies shop on Thursday afternoon. That marks the beginning for us. Reggies open shop, Thirsty Thursday, and the garage crawl the next morning are activities where great examples of craftsmanship and hospitality, that I don't see mentioned with the Paso show, are brought forth. It's becoming a matter of pride for the shop owners to be included as one of the stops on the crawl and everyone has their faces washed and a clean shirt on when we arrive. It's great to see how hard these craftsman have worked to put up a good showing. Then it keeps right on rolling to the street party, the clubs and outdoor stages downtown. Saturday arrives with breakfast at the Hula Hut and off to the showgrounds, where there is yet more in the way of vendors, music, comraderie and of course, the cars. This is an unbelievable day. Sunday brings the cruise through the hill country for lunch, then off to Flyrite Choppers for more food, music and general wrapping up bs as the party is pretty much winding down from there. I even enjoy recapping the weekend events as I write our thank yous. We've not been to Paso, so I can't really compare the shows, but I don't see the periferal activities mentioned anywhere in the posts. Then there's the talk of h***les and being made to feel unwelcome by the local constabulary and high lodging prices. It takes loot to attend either show, and how much you want to spend to get there varies, that's pretty much a wash, I think. All that being said, my heart lies with the Round Up, but we might try to make Paso soon, if it keeps on with the same vibes. I want us to take a hot rod vacation and when the Caddy proves itself up for the challenge of an extended road trip Paso might just be on the big loop.
ive been to the roundup the past 4 yrs and i just attended my first paso. as far as the show goes and quality of cars id definitely say paso. but if youre looking for activities after hours id say austin for sure. both have their perks. austin is just such a cool town while paso is something you just cant miss. im going to be attending both from now on thats for sure
