I havent posted in a while but whatever, this would be the place to post this question. Ok, so I have a general idea on how these work, I know you fill them with ice and the air blows by it but I want to know exactly whats inside of them, I'd like to build one out of aluminum and want to know if anyone has blueprints or a diagram I could base one off of.

P.S. I;m not sure, do these generally mount on rain gutters (if available) or do they squeeze between the window and the door? and then there is that little brace......where does that atatch?

You fill with water, there is a horse hair like material on a barrell, you pull the string and it move the 'horse hair' thru the water and the air blows over it, cooling the air..

It mounts to your window gl*** (you roll it down some) and it sits between the gl*** and window channel. (some have braces and some do not)

in case you don't know how swamp (evaporative) coolers work:

they use water, not ice. The pad is wet, and the air p***ing thru it causes some water to evaporate from the pad, the evaporation of the water takes heat energy, and the heat is removed from the air as it goes thru. They only work well when it's dry out....like it is here in AZ and NM and parts of CO and CA and NV. Maybe western Washington is dry enough...but anywhere along the coast or in the humid areas of the country (pretty much the eastern half) they don't do much.
