Was working today on the 51 and decided to change up the roofline on the carson top...what do you all think of the profile first on the roof and second on the window/s opening(2 lines on that...high or low)
Actually looks pretty good with some color? I wasn't sure at first looked like it had a bubble above the windshield...
It looks great with the color photoshopped in. I couldn't get my head around it without it. That's one sweet ride my friend.
thanks chaddilac for the paint!! gives me a better idea of the line which i really like now....thought it might be too high but not now!!
Hey, 'looks killer! Ya may wanna lower the top bow to allow for padding thickenss. The real top, unlike the photoshopped one will be alttle thicker in profile. S****ey Devils C.C.
Hey, That's gonna depend on which padding material you're gonna use. Traditional cotton batting over chicken wire was thick @ 3-4''. The cotton had a habbit of setteling over time, however. The Dacron in use today doesn't sink down too badly, maybe 2'' or more. The factory padded tops use hard foam, maybe 1-1.5'' max. I beleve that Risker's site has construction photos of "a real Carson Top" via Don Hauser (sp). Sorry I can't give ya a link as I'm a techno- tard.

great look,,,i love it..,,,,,,,,,wonder how it would look with the quarter windows photoshopped out as someone suggested,,
Personally, I definitely like it better in the top pics WITH the 1/4 windows intact... the back of the roof looks too "fat" with them removed, and loses that cool streamlined "bubbletop" look.
i did one for a 50 chevy a couple of years ago just like yours and it looked great, then the owner changed his mind right before i had it done and wanted the 1/4 windows removed,! looked better in my mind the first way, but you do as the owner comands!! your car looks alot sleeker and smooth, the one i did was only cut about 2" the top starts to look pretty wide when you remove the 1/4's lookin good.
Couple of different versions. Unmodified, simply covered over your existing frame. Lowered crown at the top. Completely re-done.
I definitely like the lower window line, if you keep the 1/4s. I was actually just going to suggest an opera window. I agree on the top looking too wide with no 1/4, and the opera window really breaks it up.
I was going to say I thought the roof had a bit too much curvature or 'bubble' just above the door, and it might look better it it was flattened out a bit. Loogy beat me to the punch, though! The photoshop says it all!
