I know this is a Board for rods not dogs. But, we have a dog here in Indy at my vet clinic who is looking for a home and he is about 10 to 11 weeks old. He is a beagle mix we think. But he is all brown with a tail that looks like it has been used as a dip stick. He is called Dip Stick. I will post his picture tonight . He was ment to belong to a car guy I think.
If you can't find him a home PM me and I will come get him. If I can't find him a home I can take him to SICSA (society for the improved conditions of stray animals) where my wife is a volunteer. We won't let him be put down.
Good on you!!! Annie here, adopted us a little over a month ago. We had been looking and failing to get a lab when she showed up and adopted us. Definitly a dump, skinny as a rail and covered in ticks. Pretty good manners and house trained too. If I could have five minutes alone with the previous "owner".....
no better feeling than giving an animal a 2nd chance at life, and knowing they cant possibly have it any better only adds to it. i have 2 dalmation mix, one was on his way to the pound, the other was on his way out of the pound, his time was almost up. we never thought it would work, but i refused to bring him back, his fur was coated in old dried up urine, he was covered from head to toe in fleas, and had a urinary track infection. i promised myself he would have a better home then the pound, i also told my wife we could get rid of him but not to the pound or any shelter, that lasted about 8 weeks, its been about a year and a half and the 2 finally get along together, pretty good, and i can say that niether one of them will be finding a new home any time soon.
Good for you Kerry. Thats a good lookin' dog. 1931 S/X- Keep up the good work bro. Its a great feeling isn't it!
We have a mean ass cat, he'll kick the shit out of your dog. There, perfect, bench racing between dogs and cats.
The nice thing about dogs as opposed to wives and girlfreinds is, the later you come home, the happier they are to see you. Hope DipStick finds a good home.
Wow, To all of you who have responded so far. You are all great and it makes me feel like I am in the best of company. By no means will my clinic put him down. His first owners beat him a lot and were not very nice people. I have him sitting , playing fetch, and 90% creat trained. I have only been working with him for 5 days and I have already got him past being head shy of my hands. This little man is so smart and a quick learner. All I had to do is ask it of him. I would keep him myself if it wasn't for the fact that I have 5 extra large dogs, 2 of which are in there golden years and don't need a puppy at this time. Kerry , your dog is awsome. I grew up with Germ Shep. and they are the best. 1931S/X , And as far as dalmations , I have saved a few in the past from bad parents and they are just clowns. They are fun and loving and only just need a little extra time and love and they make great friends. 40Standard , Hay you gota love both . Oh and cats to! My camera is giving me a little problem so it might not be until Friday that I can post his picture.
Hope some lucky HAMBer ends up with Dipstick - he sounds like a keeper. I've had several different breeds over the years (including Dalmations, Goldens, Sheepdogs, etc), but I always wanted a retired Greyhound (maybe because I'm a racer, too? Plus they look great chromed!). Anyone here have any experience with them? I understand they're actually pretty mellow and loving, when not in race mode. True?
Retired grayhounds are great. Some of them aren't so good with cats and small dogs. A friend of mine just got 2 this past year. He got his from a program where they send the grayhounds to a prison and the inmates train them. It was a great deal for him because they came trained and he got to go visit them and pick them out at the prison. He also got to go to there graduation day. If you want more info on that, Let me know and I will get it for you.
I had a beagle, dumb as a brick, but still a great dog! Now we have a SPCA german shepard mutt, but they should are greatful aren't they? I laugh at my neighbor whenever she says she rescued a dog, "was he in a burning building" I always ask. CHAZ
I have 2 rescue Beagles, 1 is a pure beagle ( Huckleberry ) & the other is beagle / coon hound mix. (Babe) & you are right, dumb as a can of paint BUT anybody else says that they get thumped by me ! DeGreaser, generous offer by you, can you post/send me info on your group, I would like to send a small donation to them. My best friend has a retired Grayhound & its basically a piece of carpet! Outstanding with his little grandson, lets him crawl all over him, etc. Once when he was getting his living room ceiling popcorned, he gets a call from the guy doing it who thought the dog was dead cause he wouldn't move so they could do the ceiling. By buddy said he is ok, just cover him with a tarp so they dont get any pop corn on him & thats all they did & he never moved/flinched ! Steve
Well to up date a little. Dip Stick has went to a foster family for the weekend to see if that will be his new home. Hope all works out because he is so great, and I was falling in love with him.
We have two, an Airedale and a Kerry Blue both of them were rescue dogs. Hope this family works out for that little guy.
I got my 2nd American eskimo from a rescue, after my 1st one cashed in at 14 from Cancer. She's a bitch, but better than my exes. A dog's better than a woman because: 1. She never wakes me up and asks" If I died would you get another dog?" 2.I can come home late w/lipstick all over me, smelling of strong spirits, and she's happy to see me. NO nagging. 3. And the best part...If she gets knocked up, I can give the kids away. Hey man , sounds like you'll find the little mutt a good home......Ole Pork
Thank You all for all your posts and help. The people who were foster him for the weekend totaly love him. So now he has a great home with a 6 year old little boy who has totaly bonded with him. And they are starting 4-H puppy and kid training classes in 3 weeks. You hambers are the greatest!!!!!!!!!!!!
