I already stated I would just drive away but the more I think about it and with the issues i've been having with my good truck lately (electrical and noise in engine), it would be tempting to pour gas on him and set him on fire and collect insurance. Not my fault he was smoking while stealing gas. Of course it would have to be an isolated neighborhood to do it. One less crook to worry about and a new truck. Boy, this is starting to sound good ! Anybody know of a thief for rent? Okay back to reality, I'm also surprised they had to wreck the truck like that. You would have thought they could have inserted like a skinny screwdriver or something flat p*** his finger to hold the flap up.
I was in an USAF Squadron once when a group of guys went TDY to Travis AFB in Ca. Anyway, one of the *****s that went decided to do a little B&E action since whatever he got would be taken outta state with him, and he'd never be caught. Anyway, this rocket surgeon decides to take a dump in the middle of the living room floor on his way outta the house just because he thought he wasn't going to be caught. As he pulled his pants down, he military ID flipped out of his pocket and landed on the floor away from the pile, and he left. A few days later, the cops show up at his place to question him about his ID, and he confesses to the whole thing.
Back here in '75 or '76 guy was stealing lumber from a house under construction just next door to him at night and fell down the open staircasing breaking his back and sued and won because it wasn't roped or blocked off.
You always hear **** like that...stepped on a roller skate, fell in a hole dug in the back yard, I even heard one where the theif fell off the roof and won a judgement against the homeowner. Part of it is some trial lawyer looking to score, part of it is some bleeding heart saying "Yeah...the poor guy was stealing but he shouldn't have to suffer for the rest of his life becuase YOU made your house/yard/roof unsafe." We just had one here in Georgia that was settled because a driver was fleeing from a cop, flipped his car and is stuck in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. THAT one happens all the damn time. Often, the city settles because it's cheaper than fighting it. Everybody repeat after me, and then call your congressman: "If you are injured or killed during the commission of a crime, you and/or your family may not sue for damages." -Brad
The one about the guy getting stuck in the garage and living off dog food is part of the Stella Awards, named after that dumb lady who spilt her McDonalds coffee on herself & sued because it WAS HOT! They are hilarious. you shoulkd check them out. the gas thief would definately qualify if he sued.
[ Everybody repeat after me, and then call your congressman: "If you are injured or killed during the commission of a crime, you and/or your family may not sue for damages." -Brad[/quote] bttt because I like this advise. I'm emailing this to people on my list and contacting my Congressman in the morning.
so....you really think that all those lawyers in congress are going to limit lawsuits? keep on dreamin'
Several years ago a friend of mine and his wife got T-boned in a Dodge Colt while crossing an intersection by a guy that ran the red light. The impact knocked them across the 4 lane intersection where pedestrians had to run for their lives...The guy in the other car had no legs and was using a stick for the gas and brake. The legless man (who was at fault) sued my friend and his insurance company for a new car...and won! The judge decided in his favor because he said my friend and his insurance company are more capable of taking care of themselves than the legless man (using a stick for braking), therefore they should provide for him a new car... Did I mention my friends wife was pregnant but fortunately there were no complications.
There are a lot of stupid people here. But there was a roof incident at my high school in the late 70s or early 80s. Thief fell through a skylight to the gym floor, yes he won the lawsuit. I'm sure they tried other things before cutting the truck, but they aren't mechanics.
That's ******** the firefighters cut him out. Now the owner's got thousands in damages. Surely somebody could have gotten some tools and spent 30 minutes dis***embling him out. If a guy is stealing gas, then he can't afford the 3K bill they just generated, so it's now on the victim regardless of what the judge says. That's ****ed up.
I remember a news story from years ago where someone tried to steal gas from a motor home seems the perp syphoned from the waste reservoir of the chemical toilet and ingested some he was found collapsed at the end of a long trail of vomit ... there is no access to the sewage on a motorhome other than through the toilet or the dump tube underneath.
