Who has put a front clip on a '50 Chevy? What will match up...Camaro, Nova, etc??? Any tips? After calling about replacement bearings in front, I am seeing the reality that front clip will give me much more bang for the buck. Thanks

Mine came with a 2nd gen front steer firechicken subframe, so I'm going to work my way thru it. it's a bit wide, but i"ll try 4x4s-10 wheels before I chop up control arms.
Honestly can't remember who makes it, but since the factory crossmember unbolts with relative ease, I would recommend a bolt in mustang II cross member. I would start by looking at fat man fabrication. I know they make them for the early IFS pickups, pretty sure they make them for 49-54 chebby's also. Good Luck...
ch***is engineering makes the bolt in, there are several other companies making weld in. FATMAN FABRICATIONS makes one 2" lower than everynone else, and stainless tubular A-arms
I like the idea of a donor car sub-frame because of all the goodies you get with it for a fraction of the cost. I need a new column, wiring harness, front brakes, etc anyway...My Dad did his 47 pick-up w/ a Camaro clip and it has worked out great. Thanks Thommyknocker for the links to the info and thanks to rest of yall about the Mustang II stuff, I am sure it is the way to go, but economically I may have to go the front clip route.
There Is No Reason To Do The Whole Clip... Ch***is Eng. Has A Bolt In Mustang Ii Kit. I Think It Has The Motor Mounts Installed So If Your Doing An Engine Swap It Will Be Easy. There Are Tone Of Other Kits Out There As Well Try 50chevy.com
I used the Ch***is Engineering MII set up. I am very happy with it as far as installing it. Hopefully, in another year or so, I can tell you how happy I am driving it! Budget constraints are slowing me down at times, but I don't think I will regret spending the money on what I consider to be the backbone of the car.
We put a camaro clip in my buddies 50 ford pickup. Used the camaro master cylinder, steering column, pedal ***embly, power steering etc.... The only thing we had to buy was two borgensen u-joints and some DD shaft. I like the way it drives way better than the Mustang II I have in my 38 chevy.
Subframe will make your wheels stick out too far (unless you go with retarded looking shallow offset front wheel drive wheels). Subframes are cheaper when you think about it, but they get very expensive once you actually put them in. Subframes are awesome for some cars, but not 49-54 Chevys.
