Now that I've taken two fun tests for work, I'm back to working on my car a bit. Trying to figure how short to have the driveshaft cut. Anyone know the exact length of a stock 1940 torque tube? Mine is 50 3/4" exactly from the base where it bolts to the rear end to the end of the bell with a straight edge held over the top.
Mine measures exactly 70" from the end of the front bell to the rear flange. This one's out of a '41 half-ton pickup, same as a '40 p***enger car.
The rear in my Deuce is a '48 Merc.....my torque tube had to be shortened to 53 1/2" My driveshaft had to be shortened by 19 1/2" and resplined to fit right using the Deuce rear spring and a '39 transmission.............I had mine done by Ken and Nick at the Hot Rod Works in Nampa Idaho http://www.hotrodworks.com/ They do great, precise work and are really good guys to deal with....they are also HAMBers.....my tube and driveshaft have been working fine for about 4-5 years now.... I've got a stock '39 rear that's complete axle nut to axle nut, banjo to bell. The TT measured right at 70" - I also have a loose TT supposedly from a '39 & it also measures 70".
