My friend has a set of Ford flathead V8 aftermarket heads. They are finned, and cast iron!!! They say "Rocket" on them as a brand. 59A 24 stud style. We know nothing about them, has anyone heard of them, advantage, disadvantage, value? He wants to sell them, but wants a little info before doing so.
    any help would work.

    Thanks, Chris

These are fairly rare heads, but not so rare that this post won't scare up 5 or 10 guys who have them or have had them before.
I believe the name KOGEL is cast near the water neck as well as ROCKET.

Kogel Rocket cast iron Heads only advantage (as far as I can figure) is the strength for torque over aluminum. They are rare but out there.

All the ones I have seen have been cracked.
    Check very closely.

They are cool to paint engine color.

Zach, somehow I figured you might pop in here :) I tell you what, he is open to offers, and he just bought a super clean 29 RPU and is looking for some performance parts (B crank) and such. If you are interested in buying or trading, PM me and I'll give you his number. I know he paid 600.00 about 10 years ago, and I think he's thinking somewere around 800.00. He's an older guy and super nice.

I think his price may be on the high side. Last few pairs I've seen have been between $400-$600.

I'm half-heartedly looking for a pair, so not anxious to shell out big bux for 'em.

Have heard they were prone to cracking.

I think champion may have also made finned cast iron heads too, but not sure.

They do have a funky chamber shape - if I ever get a set, I'm gonna have them flowed to see how they do...

The plain heads below the Rockets are Ford over the counter "Denver" heads, 60CC chambers.

Champion made a cast iron finned head also. I missed a set for the 8BA by thinking about it too long. They were gone when I went back. I think they made some for the 59A also but I've never had one in my fat little fist.

I have no idea if they had anything to do with the spark plug guy.

Traded a pair of those heads, along with a H-C dual coil dist., Clay Smith cam and a 3-5/16X4" short block for a case of beer in 1963. I think the engine is still in a shed near Elk Mound, WI but I can't remember the name of the fellow Stout student I made the trade with.
