Well after drivng from New Mexico to South Texas without a hicup in a 56 year old car my ignition decides to die ! The car sat for so long and started without a hitch and I drove it down with no problems then baam no spak. I put a new cap, rotor, points, coil and still nothing. Im getting voltage to the points an they are opening and closingbut no spark. Any help?

ok so you can see the points spark when you manually open and shut them? if so, then make sure your rotor is touching the cap.

then take a spark tester and put it on the coil(line out to dizzy) if that works, then put the spark tester on each plug wire.

    process of elimination.

PS, you did set your point gap right?

check the little wire that goes along the edge of the dizzy..they can lose there insulation, and ground out on the case...I have had it happen...put some electrical tape between it and the case..for a test..worked for me...Waterboy

replace the condenser too.... but bump the motor over till the points are closed. and then you should see a blue spark there at the points and hear the "snap" and when you do that the coil will also fire. so you can use that to check the coil.

ALSO, if you think you have a bad ignition wire, then run a wire right to the hot side of your battery. remember if you have a pos+ ground car you need to hook up it up to the negative.

  9. Had a similar problem recently with my 50 dodge ,turned out to be a bad wire on the condenser. Be sure to check for a short right where the wire enters the dist.
