Hi everyone, I have searched this site for more detailed information on Ryan's car but have not found what I am looking for. If I have missed any threads that contain this information please post the link. Also, I am new to the scene and am trying to learn as much as I can about traditional hot rods. I view Ryan's car as a benchmark and am looking gain as much information as I can so I can apply that knowledge to my build. I am trying to disect the frame, suspension, steering and running gear on the car, and here are my questions: Frame Is the frame an original 32 or a repop? Front suspension What wishbone is being used? Steering Is that an F100 box? Rear suspension Is he using a buggy spring? If so what type of crossmember and spring is in there? What type of rear wishbone is in the car? Driveline? What transmission is in the car? Is this an open drive system or a torque tube application? Thanks for your time and information. I may have more questions as these answers are posted, so please check back often. Thanks...
Some of this I know - and I could take some pretty educated guesses on the other... but Ryan likely knows all of it for certain so no sense in me mucking this up.
I'll sit down tonight and write ya up an answer... It's actually called the Tardel/Cochran coupe though. I'm just the owner... Keith Tardel is the builder.
Grabbed a couple of minutes before I headed for the house... So: 1. Repop '32 frame, but Keith added the stock Ford fender rivets, hood latch indentions, etc... to make it look like an original piece. 2. Stock '32 bones on a dropped '32 heavy axle. 3. F100 box 4. Model-a rear cross member with model-a spring holding up '47 tubes sandwiching a culver city quickie... wishbone to match. 5. '39 Ford tranny with a torque tube
I have been wodering the same thing. I remember what the rear end was but not the rest. Thanks to Ryan for the answers.
dam I thought I might catch ya off gard ? got there to late to here it run last saturday. looked good going down congress .
I'd like to see some recent pic's of your 38..........which one you bringing to the Hot Rod Cinematic?? Maybe I'll see the 38 there.
Any chance of some good photos. That coupe is one of the most period correct looking cars I've seen. A great combination of owner and builder having a shared vision and creating a masterpiece.
Hey Ryan, Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. If I have any more questions on it I will let you know. Thanks again...
Yes... note the mud that Keith got all over our car after I spent an hour getting it clean... fucker.
Good thing it's not a roadster. Don't wanna mess up your hair now, do ya? All kidding aside....a really cool car.
Ryan's coupe is easily one of the best looking ever! I ain't brown-nosing either. The proportions are perfect! BTW Ryan, thanks again for the pics! Dave
Look like f-1's to me...didn't the Mopars have flat spots were the bolts go? The Fords were fully round...just my stupid guess.
Tardel is pretty good at what he does? that's like "kind of on fire," " a little pregnant," or "sort of dead." Face it. he's a freakin Monster.
So much for "spreading the Gospel" !!! Best sounding non blown flathead I've ever heard, by a big margin.
Huh???? Must have alot of work in 'em......as the taper, curvature and length appear dead on as Mopar.....nice work..... Chris, Mopar mounts are only flat at the end bolt.....not both....and Ryan's 'appear' flat at the end bolt too......
Best sounding non blown flathead I've ever heard, by a big margin.[/QUOTE] I agree....I am not a big flathead fan.. but when he fired it....it sounded like it was on steriods....very healthy..... unlike any flatty I have ever heard before.
Thats what I meant to say...just came out stupid soundin! I've had both sets, amazing how similar they are for two differnet manufatures. Hey Sinister, you going to Hotrodarama?
Reading this thread, thinking "I hope there's pictures" and so there was! Really nice car Ryan, has a look about it that really hits it! Is it a famous car? Been in print? (hey, I'm still new remember?)
