Lets see your Front turn signals on those fenderless hot rods, and include a description of what your using and where they came from. I need to steal some IDEAS ....... LUKESTER
havnt got one but ive seen the little guide lights on the main headlights used as indicators, or drilling a hole in the bottom of the bucket and inserting a colored bulb for the turn signal inside the main light housing tim
i used a small motorcycle bullet running light as a turn signal. first i changed it to use an 1157 bulb so it is now a parking light and turn signal. to mount it i drilled a hole in my head light housing (king bee style) and used the base mount of the accessory light to attach it to the head light. all of the wiring is hidden and the light is mounted to the inside (grille shell side) under the head light , so it isn't all that noticeable.
I have fenders but my front park/turn lights are in the headlights with amber bulbs. I got the kit for my Model A lights from CW Moss, including H4 conversion. TZ
Both lights in one central housing. If you aren't too hung up on old timey stuff like me, the Mopars made little chrome lights that were on top of the fender for the driver to see. Turn them around and mount them on top of the frame rails and they almost disappear.
I used signal lights off a motorcycle, this style had a nice chrome housing. It doesn't have the dual element so its just signal lights, no parking lights. I just drilled a hole in the top of the frame and bolted em on.
Stock '40 Chevy, '40 GMC truck and '40 Chevy passenger car T signals. They could work on the sides of any deeper radiator shell.
I striped a guy's 32 Ford roadster awhile back that had some unique turn signals. His car was full fendered but the headlight units were some type of accessory truck unit that had the turn signals built into the lamp at the top of the lens(actually inside the lens).I forget the maker but they were very nice.I can call him and find out who made them if you like. Ray
My car currently has those dorky square aftermaket light... I think they're called Rod Lights. Anyway they look totally out of place. They were on my car when I bought it. I picked up some aftermarket motorcycle signals at a motorcyle swap that are gonna go on at some point. Similar if not identical to what Rainer has in his pic. I wanna change the whole lighting thing on the front end. I wanna go to repop 30-31 Model A with running lights inside them and change the mounts as the headlights are too far back and they shake really bad.
The head lights with the signals on top are called "Guides". Mine were originally made for Mack trucks. Bought them from a guy that had them new in the boxes. Look around at swap meets and on E Gay..
[ QUOTE ] there's a car in this pic??? I cant fucking see it! [/ QUOTE ] Yes, I see the headlights on high beam but I can't see any turn signals. I never get tired of looking at those beautiful sexy photos!
ray, if you call the dude to find out about the turn signal inside the headlight would you ask him how effective they are when the headlights are on? i've been thinking about drilling a hole in the reflector and installing a socket for parking lights/turn signals, but wondered if the turn signals can be seen when the headlights are on.
[ QUOTE ] if you call the dude to find out about the turn signal inside the headlight would you ask him how effective they are when the headlights are on? [/ QUOTE ] I have turnsignals inside my headlights. Placed at the bottom of the teardrops. Work great, but the round headlights may be different.
Morris Minor had in the 50's a nice small chromed bulletshaped turnsignal on top of each fender. Clear glass and You can use a colored bulb.

[/ QUOTE ] I have them in my A pickup. You CAN see the turn signal with the headlights on, but since the lenses are flat they can only be seen if you are in front of the lights. I am real careful changing lanes, especially if there is traffic around. I have a neighbor who runs his cowel lights as turn signals, but those only look good on a fendered car. TZ

Common over here are these little Austin lamps with white lenses, i mounted them just under the end of the frame.....you can hardly see 'em until they flash as they have little halogen bulbs.

[/ QUOTE ] Mike: I'll see if I can get hold of him today.I didn't see them operate but the headlamps are early Euro halogen style with the flat crystal lenses and the directional portion is yellow and is about 1" high at the center.I'll get all the specs on it and PM you. This another truck light, from a Peterbilt I was looking at with the an amber signal in the headlight ring.
Mine's just those little square jobs that Yearwood sells, but I Like the way it sits in the frame horn.

[/ QUOTE ] Mike: I tried calling him tonight and got his wife instead.I was shocked to find out he had passed away last month from complications of pancreatic cancer! If anything good came of it,it was that we had a nice long talk even though I barely knew her.She invited me to a memorial service for him that is being held on Saturday. I called a friend to tell him about it and in the course of our conversation I mentioned the lights. He seems to think they are manufactured by a company called Hagen.I've never heard of them but maybe somebody on the board has.Sorry I couldn't be more help.
