"Then others will pace you, right next to the fender of the trailer, you slow they slow, you speed up they stay right there."

GAWKERS....you have to expect a few of them when trailering a cool car.

But, yeah trailering is tough. You leave enough room to safely whoa down your rig in case of a problem and instead every guy pulling out of a side street or parking lot thinks you've left that room for him. Evidently there a very few who bother to take notice that what they are pulling in front of is pulling a trailer.

And how about trying to gas-up with a trailer. How many times does some clueless person pull up in the fire lane to go inside and buy scratch-offs or something...while you are trapped at the pump because you can't swing the trailer out with them in the way?

  2. oakland can get nuts... i bet looking down at the 880 from above would be like some f'ed up tetris game. dont get my wrong oaklands a great place but that 880 is the worst mix of industry, retards, old folks, amature horizontal racers, inexperienced drivers and not paying attention. the diversity of the town is great but on the hwy...not so much. i had to pull over once and chill out for a bit cuz i was getting too stressed going 85 surrounded by cars with a carlength only around me.

  3. Why is it worth it to keep riding there?

    Thanks,
    Kurt

Because driving a car is a stupid alternative. It's cheaper and faster for me to ride a bike.

Got a guy here where I work. I see him all the time comming to work in the mornings.

He always waits at least 10 seconds after the light goes green before pulling out.

He speeds up to about 20mph then hits the brake for a couple seconds before upping his speed to 25. (This is in a 35 zone).

He does 25 for a bit then slows to about 15 before realizing it and speeds back up to 25 and hitting his brake while checking his speedometer again.

He is a courteous driver who stops in the 35mph traffic lane to allow people half a block ahead to pull out from driveways so keep one foot on your brake and both eyes on his tail-lights if you're following him.

Going up the onramp instead of merging with the 55/60mph traffic he'll hit the top of the ramp at 25 or so and come to a stop if there's traffic before pulling on the highway. Then he does 45 in a 55 zone or has been known to speed up to 50 to drive alongside a slow truck to keep both lanes blocked just to piss off all those aggressive drivers.
(He's actually told me he blocks the fast lane to slow them down).

2 weeks ago he held a required attendence safety meeting at work about "Aggressive Drivers, speeders and tailgaters threatening the public safety"...

It's illegal to shoot this asshole so I blow buy him the first chance I get every day to avoid him causing me to get ass ended and wearing out my brakes following him as he meanders his way to work.

He should know about agressive drivers I guess. He's been rear ended 3 times in the last year...

I hope the next one that rear ends him has a bulldog on the hood and a heavy load of iron in the trailer.

I guess when I blow by assholes like him 15mph faster than them I pretty much look like an aggressive driver. Even tho I'm still not exceeding the speed limit. So I'm an aggressive driver and damned proud of it. I haven't been in an accident since 1967. He hasn't been in one in almost 4 months...

    another bumper sticker:

"guns don't kill people....tailgating my truck kills people!!!"

  8. Man aggression works like braking during rush hour. One person does it and eventually it's got the whole freeway doing it. No one can honestly remain completely cool when someone pulls infront of them or some other perceivably hostile action. Chain reactions and what have you.
I don't feel too bad saying if that's happening, I'd rather be the one f-ing instead of the one getting f-ed.

When driving my truck, I'm always smiling while being tailgated. It's lifted 9" w/ 38" tires and I leave my drop down hitch inserted full-time. Had an antsy teenage girl honk because I wasn't cutting reaction times as fast as John Force. I left as if I normally would, but the honk "startled me", so I braked real hard, so as to avoid whatever I was being "warned about". I didn't even stop or get out, I waved bye or "sorry" as she sat there with her hood buckled and looking like Old Faithful.

On my bike, it's ball bearings, marbles, or anything hard and round I can find to keep in my pockets specifically for tailgaters. I'll usually only have to drop two before they get the message. Had one dude get pissed, pull up next to me, looking rather perturbed, and as if he was signing up for a roadside ass whipping. Somehow he had memory lapse of the acceleration of a newer HD. He gave tow just as I hoped. Guess he thought I wasn't serious. Turned my pocket inside out to show him of my marble collection. I really miss that cats eye..........................

If your towing a trailer in Texas you better watch out cuz their after ya. Same as above...your crusing at speed and here comes the idiot..thinks the gap is for him so he cuts over, a near miss on your left from fender...no signal...as you hit the brakes and fight your rig to keep it from jackknifing..you hit the horn. Now the idiot sticks his hand out the window and flips you off for honking at him...IDIOT! The other thing people here do is the same as above but they hit the brakes in order to "back you off". Cut you off and back you off. What the hell is wrong with these idiots?

  11. Years ago I had a buddy that had a couple of KC 100 watt "back-up" lights on the package shelf of his car. Tailgaters didn't like those when he 'accidentally' hit the switch when they were 3 feet from the rear bumper.

hah, I hate those people. Did you ever read the Street Rodder editorial years ago where Tony Kelly (the ex-cop) said something like "Hey Eastern Drivers, I'm the guy passing you on the left and letting the orange cones guide me into the right lane."

I wanted to write back "Hey Tony Kelly, I'm the Eastern Driver that would rather let you sideswipe my old heap than let you hold up the rest of us by merging."

i spend most of my time in my international. i have 8 brake lights, 4 rotating beacons, and 10 flashing lights. the best for me is when someone rear ends me they pay me to tow them home. wheel lifts are hell on these new cars.

Last fall my (then 15 yr old) son and I were hit head-on going 40mph. Going through an intersection and driver coming other way tried to turn left through my front bumper. Witness told the officer he thought "she was trying to commit suicide - waiting 'till that big truck was in the intersection to turn". 40 to 0 in 1/10th second is impressive.

For 6 months before the wreck my son was always bugging me "pass him, Dad", "you can beat him", "peal out", all the normal teenage son stuff. Since the accident he has replaced that with "aren't you a little close?", "Cut him some slack", "slow down for the curve", etc.

Neither of us was seriously injured in the collision, thank God and airbags, but the impact on my son (pun intended) has been enormous. He is in driver's training right now, and the change in his attitude will certainly reduce my anxiety when he hits the road on his own.

I dont wanna start any shit but most of the worst drivers i see here on my commute especially in the am are female! I had one a couple years ago that used to weave in and out of traffic going 85 while putting makeup on and shit and then she would flip me off and tell me to fuck off if i was in her way? I can read lips :) I dont let people fuck with me anymore I drive my speed while passing and then pull over when I can and not fuck up my cruise settings. If im not fast enuff for em and they are in that big of a hurry then fuck em just pass me on the right. Had one of them on the way in today.. Some of these asswipes need to get an earlier start cause its really gonna kill em someday.. Oh well least if they just kill them selves the roads will be safer.. Oh ya i used to never pass on the right but then you have the other assholes :) I just go around.

Sheesh! note to self...never piss of the muffler guy!

    wait...I'M THE MUFFLER GUY!

    ha!

the whole defensive driving thing works and all, but some days, it pays to go around folks. about 2 years ago, I was stopped at a red light that is immediately before an on ramp (6th and 1h35 for the locals- from the feeder onto the highway.) it's 1 lane on, and there was a guy in a firebird in FRONT of me. I don't know what got into his bonnet, but he started rapping the pipes and doing dry hops...in FRONT of me. it was late on a saturday, so I pulled into the lane beside him, knowing there was another on ramp a bit up the feeder, and I figured this could not end well, either way I sliced it, so I figured screw it, I'm going home. the green light went up and he ripped into it, turned sideways, and ended up facing directly into the lane I just changed out of. then the car that was behind me got it on the nose. I hate to say it, but I just laughed and flipped him the bird as I drove past.

t seems like there are more assholes on the road then ever before. When I was young along time ago, cars did not handle as well as now hence we saved our speeding for straight roads now everyone can go like hell on the worst roads and they do. A road I go on every day has death markers all ofer it and still people pass me going 20 or 30 miles over the limit in no passing zones. The other day I was stopped making a left turn when someone in a pickup passed me on my left (going in the same direction) he was doing at least 70 . If I had not checked my mirror I would be dead. All we can do is try to be carefull and watch out.

It's even more fun when they do that shit around 70 feet of tractor trailer and that happens every day constantly. They just can't wait the extra 5 seconds for me to get out of their way before they race past me on the right or scream by my left to get off the exit 100 feet in front of them so they just cut me off.I wonder if any of them have seen what a truck that size does to a car??
