Ok you blower guys(blower means somethin different here in the uk)what common blower looks like something vintage or is there still a vintage style blower available?....................Marq
It sounds like you're talking about a GMC-style blower. Lots of companies still make them like that. To see some of them as well as some other styles, go to http://www.roadsters.com/engines/ and then click on Superchargers. Dave http://www.roadsters.com/
Aa option to a blower you might look into is a McCulloch supercharger. They were made a a belt driven bolt on unit. You could even hang one on each side of your engine and create you own airbox where they attach to the carbs. I hear that they runn well and don't require a whole lot to get them dialed in. KCsledz
marq - The blower cases are the same. The difference in appearance is in the peripheral equipment - like the drive system and fuel system. 4-71's were used more back in the 50's, and chain drives were the norm. You can get the look with an unpolished 6-71, a 1/2 in. drive belt, and rubber fuel lines. Instead of a scoop, use two 6in air cleaners for four barrel carbs(scoops were mostly handmade early on) or 97 style scoops for two bbl. carbs. I think 2in belts and pullys are still available also. (3in is the norm now) The difficulty will be in finding a snout that isn't polished, but you could bead blast one to get the look. 4-71's are out there, but not plentiful, and set up like above would be pretty much period perfect. You can find pictures of lots of them if you go to http://www.roadsters.com/ndr/ and then visit some of the links under Nostalgia Drag Racing Web Sites. Dave http://www.roadsters.com/
Another early "blower" is the SCoT. (Supercharger Company of Turin) that was made by Italica Mechanica in Italy. They were popular on flathead engines. Although they stopped manufacturing them some time ago, I'm told that reproductions are now available. Maybe Dave Mann can "shed some light" on the new ones.
Marq - A couple of months ago I sold a couple of the belt driven VS57 blowers along with a pile of parts to a geezer from London with a model A powered by a four banger. So I expect you'll see something different at the shows this year. Not quite the same as those 30's McCullochs but still pretty cool - and a lot more potential for power. If anything else turns up I'll give you a shout - I'm only five miles away - Dunstable Jim
WOW roadsters.com is one of the greatest sites ever. I cant believe i hadnt seen it b4, TY so much! Greg
