That's true. Unless I blew the engine or trans right out of it, pretty much anything that went wrong on my old Pontiac I could fix on the side of the road. I got good at changing generator brushes and pulling the starter to flip the copper disc on the solenoid, or filing the pits off it, before I finally replaced it. To this day I don't think I've ever had a more fun car to drive, at least not with an automatic transmission in it.
WOW, the amount of ignorance in this article is amazing. Doesn't anyone read this shit before it gets published? I'm so glad he explained what a carburetor was, I thought it was a type of rash. Whiney bitch needs to grow a pair.
Now my head hurts and I am angry for reading that shit! "Manufacturing processes have gotten so much better since the days of chrome bumpers that cars just don't break anywhere near as often as they used to. " "After 10 years with a Honda Civic, I'm spoiled" Fuck you! Real cars have chrome bumpers (or no bumpers) take a Midol, buy a Civic, sell the Stude. Remove your pussy ass from the old car world as far as you can! He will probably need years of therapy to get over his trauma!!!!! Dave
It's free to register to comment, and instantaneous, so I just left him some advice as an 'old car' driver. I didn't swear or yell at him, or call him names, just pointed out the fact that he needs a good mechanic, and needs to show his car a little RESPECT due to its age. Cheers, Glen.
Anyone else think his writing style sucked as well? I mean.. if your gonna RANT about something at least do it with some panache so people are entertained.
PS... this guy and his "wife" are also the type of folks who live without any real excitement in their lives. Excitement to them is probably asking for a little extra whipped cream on their espresso in the morning at their local chain coffee shop. They buy all their furniture new from Ethan Allen or some high brow "new modern" furniture store (instead of digging up the real mid-century stuff sold at thrift stores, flea markets or even some high end resellers). They will however run on for hours about what a great design era mid-century is but how they think things are built so much better now. Even though that faux mid-century shit they just bought at the furniture store is all pressboard and plastic vs. the good stuff built back in the day using teak laminates and real wood. They order reissued "retro style" shirts from their Urban Outfitters catalog because they wouldn't dare buy a real vintage shirt that "gasp" someone else had worn. Rather they want to consume than preserve or reuse. Oh don't get me wrong. They are all for recycling and will have a heated discussion in the morning over their espresso about how horrible it is that more people don't recycle "like them", you know.. put your aluminum in the recycle bin right? That should do it! Never the mind that their vast new product consumerism causes more waste than they could ever hope to recycle. *Sigh* At the end of the day though Fiat128 is right. Your either a "car guy" or your not. Some people just don't appreciate cars. Thats ok though. Really do you want people like this guy infecting the car guy world? Nah.. no thanks. Now anyone got his number? I'd like to make an offer on that horrible old car of his. I mean its so bad.. whats it worth to him? $50? LOL
Is there a reason why we should give a fuck about whoever Pussy McFaggot is and why he should never own anything that wasn't built under the flag of the flying sun. " The carburetor is stupid." WTF kind of statement is that? That alone should get the guys ass kicked and the car taken away. I guess someone pissed in my Wheaties this morning.
There must be a bright side to all of this,..maybe no cup holders for his hot tea,..but surely his golf clubs fit in the trunk.
Lux, you're my hero. This guy is judging something from the past by todays standards. He should write an article on why "I hate P-51's. They cant even break the sound barrier." or "The Beatles suck. All thier songs are three chords." Go listen to Yanni, Jackass. You have to put effort (even if it's minimal) into a hobby as rewarding as ours.
............even with all the fucking bitchin' he's done and the disrespect this clueless douchebag has given this car, would you really expect to find his Avanti for sale at a reasonable price?
Hell no, thats part of the point I was making. This goofball would still bill it as a "great classic" and try to get top dollar out of it. Or pawn it off on one of his other yuppie asshole friends.
I read the article and agree with you. He not only is a fairy, he sounds like an asshole and his friends that won't ride in the car seem like overpaid pieces of yuppie fucknuts who don't think their shit stink. Fuck him and his wife and his friends. Someone that needs all the modern convienences and cannot live without his navigational systems, air bags, air conditioning, and power everything. Fucking people like this make me fucking sick.
He's absolutely right. Cars built in the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's are pieces of shit compared to what they build not. But we don't love our cars because they are "good" cars. Get it? Sam.
You guys are aware that some guys will post things on the Internet just to fuck with people, Right? These 2 seem to have a lot in common... http://www.ronaldsummers.com/pranks/petrol_diesel.html
I rode cross America with a stock -58 Bel Air, from N Y to LA with only a broken generator. A guy at Lonestar round up sold me a well functioning for 30 bucks. Try that with a 2007 Yamaguchi. I would never trust a modern car to do a trip like that. He should buy a bus ticket and sell the car to an enthusiast.
How about taking and keeping your political comments off the H.A.M.B. like the rules say? Thanks, Kurt
its funny, the experience this guy had with his Avanti, is about the same experience i've had with any of the newer cars i've owned. maybe i should post an article on the internet about how poorly designed new cars are?
I find it funny how many 10 year old cars (or newer) have passed through my wrecking yard, and plenty of others, with no body damage...major mechanical failure. Rah Rah for quality.. HMM..his Avanti should be dead and gone, but after 44 years it still runs..? I havent paid more than $150 for any of them.. there was not a good Honda built after 1993. I could picture his whiny ass trying to start it up.. What a dipshit. I'm surprised he has a wife..well, a female one..
as a pilot, I enjoy flying small planes when I can afford it. A car that emulates that experience on the road is rather nice. I like the wind noise, the growl on the gears and roar of 462 cubes. It is uncivilised - and stands as a hawk among parakeets on the road.
