Emblems on car say Crusier,,late 50's early 60's car,,trying to ID the mill.Never seen these kinda valve covers
Mercury Edsel Lincoln engine.....various displacements.I have a set from I think a 59 383 Mercury? Yours would be from a Mercury Turnpike cruiser.
I think the slang for them is a MEL engine. I have no knowledge of the performance or reliability but rest assured someone here will swear by them....
ratmotor has it right, i had one in a 58 merc turnpike cruiser.383 was in it, was a good motor at the time. mine had a little plaque on the valve covers saying turnpike cruiser.
368 or 383, very heavy, horrible mileage, lots of torque. Probably not a valuable piece with that 2 barrel carb as far as the Turnpike Cruiser and performance MEL's go, unless some top end parts were switched. Are you just looking to sell it?
that's a fairly rare car...I think a 60 and it was a one year only roofline. Worth a few $$$ to a serious collector, I would think.
If it's a Monterey, 11,355 4 dr hdtps were made. If it's a Montclair, 6,713 were made. If it's a Park Lane, 7,206 were made. The engine choices for a Monterey were 312, for the Montclair a 383, and for the Park Lane a 430.
I still need the windshield out of that car, havent figured how to ship it. I have the same car but parklane model. Your looking at a 383 MEL motor, The HAMBer "vintakes" is looking for set of those valve covers. The motor or the car isnt worth too much they have a small following but I love them, the 58 merc came with the "super marauder" 383 that had factory tri-power thats a find.
