My 32 ford tank looks excellent from the outside...the previous owner forgot (right) to tell me there was a mop head in the gas tank. I guess some DA was trying to clean the tank up like their kitchen floor. Besides the mop head there is alot of rusty scale attached to the sides inside the tank...how do I clean this "thing" up really good?
    Thank you,
    Guy

Put a little gas in it and light it to burn out the mop head.... The put in some diesel and a piece of chain...close the openings.. Rock it and shake it around.
Let it sit for a while and do it again.. Dump out all the crud and use.. Dispose of the fuel properly... EVILT

Eastwood has a kit that not only cleans, but puts a new coating on the inside to prevent further corrosion. We have used it on a few vehicles with no complaints.

I also had good success with the Eastwood kit. Use ear plugs when you swish that chain around the tank. Man, it's loud!

39cent bag of marbles from the Dollar Store works well, too.

Yep, handfuls of that hard 'blue metal' gravel they use to build roads, or stacks of old nuts and bolts, or a chunk of chain will do the job. Anything that you can shake and slosh around inside the tank that will grind and s****e the crud off the inside walls. Something to moisten everything is good, new gas will help dissolve any shellac from dried gas that might still be on the walls, oil works too, just be careful of sparks if you're using inflammable stuff.

Easiest way to shake it is probably get a buddy to get one end and you get the other, but I've had a lot of success hanging a gas tank off the clothesline and doing the shaking myself. (Just don't let the missus know you're using her clothesline!)

Oh yeah, and it's a real ***** getting every single piece of gravel or whatever out when you've finished!

    Cheers, Glen.

I have used v-bar tire chain cross links and a couple gallons of WD40. then rinse it out with paint thinner.

Denatured alcohol is one of the very few things that will disolve the gum & varnish in an old tank.

If it's primarily rust - attach with muriatic, rinse & neutralize with bakin soda, then attack with phosphoric.

Yeah, just replace the damn tank...good deuce tanks can't be more than 2 or 3 thousand, right??
An advantage of using nuts and bolts is inventory control--you can count objects tossed in versus objects removed and not wonder how many rocks might have split into two...

Well, all I read is "32 Ford", says nothing about a special deuce tank. Not to argue, but "Tanks" has stainless steel repros for $525...a far cry from 2 or 3 thousand. But what do I know.

You can clean a lot of tanks for 5 bills. The guy who suggested burning the mop head out w/gas, you were kidding, weren't you ? Sometimes you never know what someone w/do because someone else suggests it. Geez, that's a ticket to the promised land...Ole Pork
