Nope, It wasn't Tony, It was Tom Vogele that built the car in his garage in Stanton Ca. Tom had worked for Boyd and is very good at what he does. He is now one of the head guys at the publishing company that owns street rodder, hot rod, rodncustom...etc. his son is also a hot rodder and works for Barry White's. The Mooreland Forty is still one of my favs. I know Tom pretty well, he did some work for me after he built that 4Dee.--TV [IMG]

Cool memories -- I was at SRM when they had the Fremont Nostalgia Drags in the '80s. Most fun I've EVER had at any automotive event. Sam, I probably tripped over you on the way to the starting line!

The whole Moreland/Fat Jack/Texan thing was cool; too bad the Texan was never finished. Those guys were 20 years ahead of their time on the fabrication that went into that car.

If anyone's looking for info on the '40, There was a series of articles in Street Rodder covering the car's build-up in Vogele's garage, probably 85-86 or so? I remember going over there shortly before the car was done and being just knocked over by what went into it. Tom knows how to put one together.

Not sure where the car ended up, but seems like there was something in one of the magazines a couple years ago on it?

    later,
    Steve

Anybody know how I can get ahold of Tom or anybody else who worked on it? And does anybody have those Street Rodder articles?

Not the same car but shot this one at Loouhveele a few years back. Guy said his old man raced it pretty much as is, back in the 60's. Sounded pretty lumpy but they drove it all over with kids in the back seat and all.

Like Ragtop, I saw it in person at the SR nats, St Paul in 1989. It really was ahead of it's time regarding quality of parts and workmanship. The idle was enough to make the hairs on your neck stand up..

Yep, I saw it in person at the St. Paul Nats. A bunch of us went up from Rochester and we saw the car and just drooled and drooled some more. I really liked that car because I still have my first car-a 1940 deluxe tudor sedan.Anyway, Jerry had his '40 parked up on the gr*** just behind where we were hanging and he fired that critter up and scared the bejabbers out of all of us. Man-oh-man, that baby was LOUD. Wow, what a great memory.

Randy, Tom Vogele still is at Primedia which is the organization that owns Street Rodder, Custom Rodder, Hot Rod, Rod & Custom, etc., etc. He is listed on the mastheads of each mag, so I am sure you can contact him by email. I.m not eaxactly sure how to get to his personal email, but if you go thrugh the roundabout way you should get to him. Good luck.

Always loved both of those cars, along with Cole Cutlers 34. All were real street cars that were bad ***. Anyone know if Fat Jack is still building hot rods? Can't seem to find anything on the net. Thanks,Brad

That '40 build was do***ented very well in a series of magazine articles. Maybe Street Rodder Magazine? Maybe six or more articles about building the car. Maybe later this afternoon I will get into the library and take a look, see if I can find the dates.....

Hell yes... Man, talk about memories.. Cole vs Moreland - Just awesome!

If you remember the BBC bus, how about the 3/4 scale van, small block as I remember, but not sure.

Moreland and those guys really were the pioneers, figuring out the stuff before the little elctronic box did it all for you.

    Man.. just awesome

  19. It was the green one... I believe it had yellow pinstriped flames and chrome reversed wheels.

I do remember a guy going through the grand stands after it crashed and p***ing a hat around to collect money for the guy.

I have a pic of it somewhere...

Cheesy Halibrand wannabe's. I hate it when you do a search for Halibrands because those wheels always show up, and they ain't no Halibrands!!

No, but they are affordable. I haven't seen any other wheels that looked like Halibrands at an affordable price. Can you tell me a better place to look? Thanks Ryan.

Not really. There's no where to get a "Halibrand look" wheel cheap. Those wheels you found are inexpensive, and if you like the look, go for it!:)

I haven't decided yet. I hate to spend money on something that I won't like the end result of. I also like the torque thrust D's and torque thrust II's.
