I wouldn't fill the seams. It's just a matter of time before they start cracking out.

    Hey,

You could always fill the gap with solder. Grind the flanges on the
fender and quarter, tin both the fender and quarter, hang the fender
and use welding rod, or wire to bridge most of the fillet. Now, solder
over the wire, remove the flux, sand to shape and prime. If well done
it should outlast plastic filler and "kitty hair".

Another option would be to use 3M or Lord Fusor panel adhesive. The flanges would have to be perfectly clean in order for it to adhere properly but the adhesive would keep the moisture out and the bonded seam would most likely outlive the car.

  6. Just weld em all up......ALL OF THEM!-I did this one in '86 was on cover of "Rod Action" that year and same acrylic enamel red paint still looks like new today....and.....Yes I used some plastic over the welds....:D
I will at least admit it!

the 3M glue works good and no warping... but make sure the metal is ground good and clean.

as all have said before make sure the flange is clean of all rust and a weldthru primer is used before welding. I would also seam seal the flange inside the fender and bolts to keep water out.

think of an 80's toyota truck bed rust gets between the spot welds (bolts in your case) and pushes it apart

Sorry to hijack your thread, but would the panel adhesive work well with fibergl*** fenders and a steel body?
