Bigdaddy, I have a set on my ride but do be aware that the chrome limefires WILL BLUE! With that said I like them, you don't have to worry about polishing the blue out because it will never come out. Hey they still looks good and at the drags at night with the caps off who needs flamethrowers?

did you call and ask about the blue....is it just something that will happen no matter what.. I mean for $600 seems to me like there would be some way for them not to blue..... Guess it wont be my money since my parents are hooking them up for graduation.... but they dont have ton of money either....

Patriot makes a similar style header. I'm looking for a good up close picture of those to see if that's what I want.

There's a product called "Blue-Away" that's supposed to remove the bluing. I've never messed with it so I don't know if it works.

around $450-$700 depending on the finish at Summit. Don't know if they can be had for less.

I put a set on my roadster about 3 years ago and the welds cracked where they welded the tubes. Seems for $500. they should have held up a little longer then 3 years. I still like the looks and will make my own from now on.

this subject has come up here before.

one solution mentioned (that I have not tried yet) is to coat the inside with something, paint, grease and oil were suggested, the coating will burn away leaving a layer of thick carbon soot to insulate the pipe thus reducing the bluing effect.

ratster - I had the same problem - it was because the exhaust pipe wasn't supported just below the down tube from the header. I added a rubber insulated muffler mount to the frame where the exhaust pipe curves in from the down tube and solved the cracking problem. There is too much weight on the header tubes without that support, and the vibration will cause cracking.

I spoke to Sanderson about what to do when they first started blueing, they told me there was nothing you could do about it and if I didn't like it I should have bought the ceramic coated style! Not very helpful but with that said I still like the looks of them. I have tried EVERY product on the market to try to remove the blue but NONE WORK save your money and time believe me! I have heard of some success with ceramic coating the inside of the chrome limefires but I have not personaly seen them. One thing I and many others have found out is how wonderfully that the chrome transfers heat to skin [IMG], good luck!

  13. Limefires are nice,although I don`t care for Sanderson.
But IMHO they are way overpriced.
You can get a kit from Speedway for about $150.Have em
HPC coated (about $100.) No chrome it will burn off.
Make em your self, then you know they`ll fit.
    Good Luck...JR

ps..I heard the folks at Sanderson ****.

  14. If you do go chrome(bad idea),have insides Jet-Hot or HPC
    coated first,before you use them)
On my Triumph after I had the pipes rechrome,I used a product called Kreem,a milkey coating on the inside of the pipes. It works good on my bike, provided the tuning is spot on.They(Kreem)also make stuff to coat inside of gas tank.
Have my doubts about it on a car?

    JR....

  15. Most bikes now a days come with dual wall pipes( pipe inside a pipe) something header companys should think about. Thats a lot cash for a pipe that WILL turn blue. Just my thoughts.

  17. I dont see the issue wih blueing, to me it shows you drive the damn car!!! I also like the coated headers, a different look than chrome but trouble free. Sanderson does make a nice header, they are a touch more money than some. If you are on a budget, I order block huggers, lakes style etc from Parr Automotive. Good prices, great coatings and/or chrome. I have had lots of PMs on this, anyone can call me 9-5 Mtn time at the shop 605-343-9452 and we can discuss header options and prices. Trent

Cruzer 10,000 miles in three years? I put that on mine in one year, you've got a cool car drive it till the wheels fall off.

I sell Sanderson Headers if I have to. They don't stand behind their product at all. When they crack they always tell you that you burned them up by either being too rich or too lean. It is funny how I have sold over 50 sets of Patriot (Old Thunderbird) headers without any failures but many of the Sandersons have had problems. If someone besides Sanderson makes the headers you want buy them from them.

  21. LIke any debate, there are two sides. Like I said I sell Sanderson and all buyers have been happy, that said, I hooked up a HAMBer with the PARR version of the Lakes header today. I feel for the money, they are a better deal and the for less money.
