Who do you guys use? It's gonna come from Torrence California and arrive at my workplace, making me drool and giggle like a schoolgirl, in Minneapolis Minnesota. I'm not positive on the weight, but it's a 57' Olds J2 Golden Rocket with the trans still attached. So, give me some ideas on cost effectiveness. Thanks!
Okay, the weight on the engine itself is 760lbs... don't know about the trans, but I wouldn't be super disagreeable about splitting the two and leaving the transmission in California.
Make sure to call a few differnt places. I got a 371 shipped out of OK to Mich for just over $200. The first place I called wanted $350 to do it. So it pays to make a few calles.
www.freightquote.com will give you a variety of shippers and prices. Call or email them. Number is on the website. Warning, those cast iron hydramatic ******'s weigh a ton, if that's what it has on it.
a machinist pal of mine, they use this service for shopping around for shipping the parts they make for clients: http://www.freightquote.com I've never used it, but poke around and see what you can find out. edit: ha! while I was writing this one out, povertyflats beat me to it... also some other places to check, Links: http://www.stovebolt.com/links/services.htm Services, scroll down to: Hauling the hauling board, in the forums of the 'bolt itself: http://www.stovebolt.com/bboard/cgi-bin//ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=40 good luck. -W
Just be sure you get the weight right and also include the pallet weight. Some companies pay a bonus to dock workers to find incorrect weights on shipments. They have scales on their forklifts. Then a BIG charge will hit your credit card later. This has happened to me twice! Not cheap.
i frequently use www.thefreightrateco.com it can be just securely strapped to a pallet. oil must be drained from both the motor and ******. to get the best rates, the load must be shipped from any bussiness with a loading dock and recieved at a bussiness with a dock/ forklift. when figuring the shipping use cl*** 70 as the cl***ification. it will be cheaper. tom
