Chevy Girl, not to be a smartass, but if you work for a company that sells overseas all the time...ahhh, couldn't someone at your work put it together? They must work with a broker.

I think where your missing the boat here Larry (no pun intended) is the fact that maylasia isnt your average over seas country. Not all countrys are serviced by Major USA air freight companys thats why the super high price tag. Id bet with the high price its gonna see more countries before it gets there and maye even change planes.
Im sure it can be done but id bet her commpany is more used to shipping to like germany italy japan places like that.

Thanks for the lead. Called, they don't ship cars by air.

    I am the company;)
Like I said earlier in the thread, we always ship by boat. All of the forwarders/brokers I usually work with are ocean liner forwarders, not air freight specialists--- totally different ball game. Plus Malaysia is far far away and would take at least 30 days by boat. If it could go by boat it would only cost $2500.00, not $15K!

Thanks for your shipping lead though, I'll check them out.

Nice guy but unable to "assume the risk" in shipping a hazardous good. People tend to get a little fussy when things contain flammables:eek:

Anyone want to invest in new company shipping cars by air?;)
For being the great US of A and having every available resource I think I found an area that is lacking....

Keep those leads coming. You guys are the best! :D

    Here ya go.
Just a little '51 Nash convertible. It has had somewhat of a cosmetic restoration. We had planned to do some paint work to it before we sold it but these people heard we had it and had to buy it now.

Look, I'd seriously like it not to be a scam, but it certainly sounds like an amateurish effort considering it is to be in the presidential parade. I just looked up a list of malaysian embassies, and you'd think if they can support a presence in all the major countries of the world, they could pull a few strings to get a car flown in.
If I were you, I'd try contacting one of the addresses below just to ask for confirmation.

If it is legit, and they want the car, they will pull out all the stops to help.

If they don't know what the hell you're talking about, it's probably a scam.

    Good luck.

I have shipped cars for clients by airplane before. Some of the overseas collectors that attend Pebble Beach ship their cars via airplane to the show. The unfortunate reality is that it is at least 20K to airplane a car from the UK to the states. I would guess getting a car to Malaysia will cost more. One of the key issues is customs. Just because you can get a car to Malaysia (or anywhere else for that matter) in a matter of a few days, it can take several days, weeks (maybe months) to clear customs-unless you have a Malaysian insider to pull the car through (and ahead of all the other imported stuff that needs to clear customs). Obviously, if you a shipping a mega-million dollar car, spending 20-30K for air shipping is probably not a big deal, but to ship a Rambler, your shipping bill is probably going to far exceed the sale price of the car. If you need some airline references, please feel free to pm me.- GZ

Have you looked into a 'Fast Boat' service? We just got parts from China in 2 or 3 weeks rather than 4 or 5 all the way to our door in Lavonia, GA.

There's another company I deal with but my stuff is in my buddies car from our meeting this morning. I'll see what I can do to retrieve it and get it to you. It was like DFDS or something like that. The US office is in Chicago and they freight stuff all the time. They work to find the best/fastest way so you don't have to.

Dang, I can't think of the name for certain but I believe they are German based...

This really sounds like a scam to me - better be careful. Malaysia is a third world country like Nigeria. Do what was suggested - set up a bank account just for this transaction - then ship 15 - 30 days after money received to make sure everything clears. Remember, when people start pushing you for time, they may be operating a scam - so you don't have the time to discover the scam.

Actually the reason seems fishy - same thing as the scammers that say they need to get cash (or jewels or whatever) out of the country because they belonged to some gvt official.

    It stinks.

Sounds like a scam to me. Lets think a minute. If the prez rode in one in 57 and he wants to ride in one now in 2007...... that's 50 years. how old was this guy when he assumed the post.if he was only 40 when he made prez, that would make him 90 now. I doubt it. best advice I've heard is contact the embassy. If it is a scam, I bet their govt. would like to know that they are being used.

Thats a cool little car there!

I don't have any other ideas that havent been mentioned already. Follow your instincts!

  21. Company I work with often ships with MMI, regularly to Japan and Korea. Am in Japan now and just recently received in fact. You probably know, Singapore is a short ferry ride across the bay from Malaysia for a possible destination.. Though I know Singapore is VERY tight on vehicle restrictions, am sure the less paperwork the better.. Sorry I do not have any more info right now except for company name.

As a "Rambler-phile", I concur is a very sweet looking car there.....

Thank you everyone for your help. Rob Thomas (above) recommended Emo Trans who was able to do it for $9000.00 out of Detroit. The wire is on its way and the car is prepping for ship. So far so good....

Shipping via air is going to be expensive and I would not expect anything less then 9k..(cargo is big business and with the cost of fuel now, weight is the problem... Try calling a major cargo outfit like 'Atlas Air', getting it on the plane will be the hardpart.. (need to find an outfit with a C-130 with a swing nose or tail..)

If this is part of the govt there, cant they help with shipment on one of their 747 Malaysia Air from San Fran, LA or other town..

I do not think we have a way to do it on United (where I work), not sure how it would get loaded..

Cargo360 could be an option too. Plus I designed the paint jobs on their aircraft, and their logo. :D

FFS don't pony up the $9000 until you have cleared funds in your account.

Lets be positive and hope all goes to plan. That's a cool little car and it'd be great to see it as part of the celebrations.

Hey Chevy Girl, you have big cajoles! I hope everything goes well. I get concerned when things have to be done in a hurry, maybe cuz I'm from South Texas. But if, like hotrodlady says, your an old pro at this then, I assume you have done your homework. This is an interesting story so, can you please keep us posted as to what happens. Maybe a pic of the car on here in advance wouldn't hurt. And, a pic of the car in the parade with a big smile from the ole prez, for the record book.:D If, for any reason, I ever need to do this in the future I know who to contact.;) Good luck!:)

I work in Russia, getting even the simplest of things here and through customs is a major pain, so I understand the issues. Good luck. '22

The warning bells are ringing so loud I can't sleep. Nothing on the country of Malaysia website about this celebration. The president is 81 years old; was he prez at age 31? Take the advice of the HAMB'r who supplied the embassy addresses and spend $3.00 on a phone call before you lose your car and money!!!!!!!!!!!!

With the power of google, I would try to find if there is any pictures from that 1957 parade to see if there even was a Nash used. I agree also with checking with the embasy, they should know if there's really a parade scheduled.
