Any H.A.M.Bers out there that can extend the Capillary tube on my 53 chevy's Coolant temperature guage?

  2. I don't think that can be done. Once you crack those open, all the juice runs out, and god knows how you get it back in there, or even what it's made out of. You might be able to buy an aftermarket gauge and take the guts out.

It's a pretty simple proposition - just make sure you've got all the fluid in the sensing bulb; keep the bulb in a pan of cool water (so as not to have it boil off as you're soldering on the extension - and you're golden. I have a Stude cap tube temp gauge you can muck around with first to get the hang of it....

so the possibility of doing this is good..and i understand the ways and means..where would i get the tiny little copper tube?..and how do you keep from soddering the little f**er shut?..maybe im not up to this..and need some one to do it 4 me?

  6. Any AC/refrigeration/appliance repair shop will have the small diameter tubing. Not that hard to do, just buy some additional length tube and practice.

An hour away - I'm between Detroit and Pontiac just off Woodward. I'll be around next weekend if you want to give it a whirl...

well its a possibility..there is the downriver cruise saturday i will most likely be going to that..if mother nature and all the stars line up i will probably be there..I will definetly keep you in mind even if that weekend gets shot to the curb..maybe i can exume it from the dash and let you know how much longer it needs to be and go from there? I would say yes for sure but my schedule gets screwy alot from work and kids..life and all that crazy shit

This can be done. If they can be repaired, the extension should be no problem. If you want, I can find the guy that does it for Cords, as they use this type of temp gauge. Also, I will also have to do this for the flatty in my Cord and I found a missing Cord gauge that is broken/missing the alcohol/fluid. PM me as I'll forget to look.
