Customs Does Anybody Remember This Truck??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by SHORTDOG, Apr 13, 2007.

  1. This story of finding the truck, searching the history, finding the original owner/builder, and then the following plans just makes one of the best HAMB stories for quite a long time. Who could believe this would turn out so good in such a quick time?

    Hey Whats up Hambers!
Well heres the plan Ill be trailering the truck to paso this year for everyone to view it in its current condition. Sometime around june or july the truck may be taken to Las Vegas to be Restored by the crew at Las Vegas Rod and Customs where the Frame off Restoration will be overseen by thee Original Builder himself Mr. Roy Delaney. We are still working on Details Ive spoken with Roy and we will be updating the suspension, engine, trans due to the fact that the engine is not the same one used back in the 60s and to make it a runner Driver Because I will be Driving it Other than that I beleve thats about all the changes other than the hood I like the hood Roys Favorite Version of the truck Was Candy Brandywine with a darker highlites Id really like to bring the truck back to its "hay days" ive never seen pictures of this truck when it was Candy Flake Lime Gold but myself im a Lime gold fan it just looks so 60s especially with White Diamond Tuft interior :D Well..See you'all in Paso be there or be Square ;) :D Oh! Also tryn to hook up with a magazine to feature the Restoration of this Diamond in the rough if anybody can hook it up that would be cool.:D
    Thanks..!!

    Hey Conrad
Glad you could take the truck to Paso. The picture you sent me was great. You should post it on this site as it may be the last time it shows in its present condition. Only three weeks now to the Fathers Day run in Pamona and I am really looking forward to meeting you in person and seeing the truck again after 40 years.

NOW get ready to bring it to Las Vegas! I'm primed and ready to go!

    Roy

  9. Conrad,
saw the truck at Paso, your very lucky to find an old kustom and find the original owner. Good luck restoring and enjoying that great truck. This thread rules.

I don't know how I missed this thread the first go around. Well, I do know, but-that's just a web technicality... (I was half expecting 2 pages into this that you'd stumble upon the original builder who wanted nothing to do with you.) I'm so glad I was wrong. Really neat to see the original builder join up and comment!!!

"wow, this blew my mind, literally choked up for a second too. im totally flabbergasted....."

Pretty much sums it up for me. This is too cool for words...

Congrats on finding an original show truck, AND getting in touch with an enthusiastic original owner! I can't wait to see it resurrected!

    The power of the HAMB!!!

Roy Delaney is actually originally from Clarkston WA...he began that truck in about 59 or 60 - Roy was a true artist. After HS he went to work in Lewiston ID (right across the river from Clarkston. He lived in Spokane for awhile, but I have no idea where he went after that. Roy was our hero....those of us with a couple of wrenches and anything with two doors. The Delaneys lived just up the street from me in Clarkston and we all went to school with them. My recollection is that not only did he own one of the coolest customs around...the girls just swooned over his looks. Roy always had time for us junior wannabes. He did some minor custom work on a friend of mine's 58 Chev pickup...rolled pans...etc - flawless work.

Well Hambers back again! Heres the picture I took of Mr.Roy DeLaney last sunday when he came down from Vegas this picture is of Roy touching the truck for the first time in 40+ years it was a pretty cool Historical moment and pretty exiting for both of us I hope you all enjoy it Remember Roy Built this truck himself he was a Body & paint man back in the days he built it by following all the Rod and Custom Magazine Tech articles when the Dream Truck was being built :D Cool Huh!
