I DO NOT KNOW THE SELLER,,, BUT THEY ARE ON EBAY RIGHT KNOW...http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MICK...ryZ34202QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Send me an e-mail if you find that catalog. I have to call BINGO, they may work, but they are not right....too many people will put them on with tons of pooky.
do any of the early covers clear, let's just say, non-stock valve trains? i bought some valve cover spacers, and they aren't gonna work...
Not to hijack, But I have a set of early script Edelbrock valve covers for olds...and get this, you flip them over, and on the INSIDE, the have "65 OLDS" cast into one of them, and "CAL CUSTOMS" cast into the other. ever get the feeling this was one big ******uous group back in the day?
That Mickey Thompson handbook/catalog is jam packed with cool stuff, if you ever have a chance to get a copy do it.
I have a friend who has a half dozen or so of the early Thompson valve covers he would be willing to sell. They are reproductions. I don’t know the price but they would not be cheap. He does not have a computer so PM me for contact information.
If you didnot find a set I know of a pair of Holmes Pontiac covers that should still be available. They have never been reproduced and are much more rare though similar to the Thompsons....
Yes, I have a set ofthe 60's style M/T valve covers with the Edelbrock script for a small block ford. Quite rare I would think.
YES THERE IS A DIFFERENCE !! Although i have seen people use them due to the bolt pattern being the same. BUT the ends of the covers/heads on the EARLY '55~'60 heads are more rounded kinda like this (====) where as the '61& later heads are squarred off like a S/B chevy.. kinda like this [====] The early Valve Covers actually hang off the ends a bit & sometimes cause a good leak at the ends.
On the '55 wagon, I can't bring myself to drill them and put the cast breathers on them so I am remachining a pair of finned sbc oil breather tubes from a HAMB member that sells them on here. I'll send a pic once I mount them. Hate that f'n oil running down the fins.
OK, didn't know that. I have some Moons and Offys that stick out past my mid 60's heads as you described and interfere with the alternator bracket. But if you flip em upside down they appear to have ample gasket area to seal early or late heads. I can't remember for sure, but I think the last set I trimmed were currently available Offys I put on my 421 in the 51. Maybe the manufacturers are allowing for all years now? A universal cover of sorts? Too bad someone polished the Thompson of the lip on yours. I'll come get em off ya and engrave Da Grouch in that lip
Very true. I learned that the hard (and oily) way many years ago when I tried to run a pair of eary Edelbrock covers on '69 heads.
Cool, I'll send you a PM I was hoping to find them a good home. I hate seeing guys that can't tell a 347 from 421 ending up with parts like these on their wall...
The ones in the book were sandcast and only made in 1964, this is the first set of covers ever made for SBF by M/T, the "bread pan" series of diecast covers comes out for 1965 and runs untill 68 when they remove the area under the breather bar and narrow the cover for better sealing since the 65-68 ones have 1/16" gap around the gasket surface of most factory heads. The 68 and newer ones are what you have and Summit Racing still sold them up untill a few years ago...All items in M/T catalog from 64 were also made in magnesium but they are a mother to track down...
for those who are interested in seeing the Thompson O**** valve covers Brad's talking about, look at the last page of the current issue of Hot Rod.
