The new show Overhaulin' premiers tonight on TLC. I saw a rough-cut version of the show that airs tonight and it looked pretty good. Just wondered what you guys thought about it.
I'm looking forward to it. Personally, the premise sounds stupid,I just hope it doesn't overshadow the hard work that is put into it.
You know the reason I watch these shows? They are mechanically oriented and I put up with the other crap they inject into the show. I hope this one is good.
[ QUOTE ] I'm looking forward to it. Personally, the premise sounds stupid,I just hope it doesn't overshadow the hard work that is put into it. [/ QUOTE ] It does, screwing with the owner is at least half the show, during the build week that stuff only takes about 1% of the time and effort spent
I do like the fact the they take a vehicle and make it cooler (may not suit everyones taste) not into a wood chipper or something like that. I think thats why we all liked the custom chevy episode of monster garage, plus the guys on the build.
I thought the premise,of "stealing" the kids truck, detracted from the long hard work put in by the guys actually doing the work, and cheapened the whole show. It was nice to see Spike Lavalee working for a couple seconds, even if he didn't explain the process completely. And I try to never miss anything Chip Foose is involved with. Better than any of those decorating shows. But it still rubs me the wrong way.
are you kidding me, what a joke.... chip foose working on a chevy 4x4 !!! maybe next week will be better, but i know i wasted an hour of my life on this !!! please stop building stupid crap !!! hey maybe they should have put a fire hose on the back and then they could have put out a fake fire with it !!! oh, sorry wrong bulls*$t show !!!
It was better than anything else that was on. Better than most TV. I'll definately give it another chance.
A little off topic here, but did anyone see american chopper last night? The "drama" about the frame hitting the back wheel cracked me up. They took a whole day and finally figured out what any of us would have figured out in two minutes-- heat and bend. I love how fake Vinnie sounded when he suggested they throw the frame in the dumpster and start over...they call this crap "reality tv"??
I made a point to get into a Sixer of Sierra Navada before I watched. It was agood show. I will watch next week.
I missed the show, but I was thinkin. If MTV and a rapper can have a show "Pimp my ride" We ought to be able to come up with a show called "Rod my Ride".....now lets see, who is cool enough to host a real hot rod show????

I did watch it, as I was scrapbooking last nite. Very unusual that I'm home before 9:30-10pm on a Tuesday nite so I was really looking forward to watching this program for the first time. I enjoyed it for what it was. A group of folks doing a good deed for a well deserving kid. There wasn't a whole lot of footage showing alot of fabracating and stuff but I found the little bit they showed on how the guy did those flames interesting. And I'm always amazed at Chip Foose's visions. I think the crew did an awesome job transforming a very bland truck into the kids style of cool. I believe this type of show is a really positive type of show for young people to watch. People getting together and doing good for others. I'll watch again if I'm able.
It wasn't that bad except for the girl saying every ten minutes what a design god Foose is. I'm looking forward to the '70 chevelle episode. Next week is... GASP;... a shoebox!
[ QUOTE ] Maybe next week they can turn that cops car into a donut factory.... [/ QUOTE ] AS long as they turn out some donut holes this time
Foose is amazing. The more I see him work, the more I respect and admire him. I don't even carwe what he's working on (I had little love for the Chevy 4x4, just like I had little love for the new T-bird he did). Seeing him create a vision, draw it, share it, explain it, build it, figure out how to make it work, and do it all with such class and talent floors me every time. I watch just to see him work. He does what I dream. Scotch~!
I knew about this show long before it was ever advertised on T.V. I'm involved with a rod project that most of you know about and that Chip Foose was interested in doing for the show. I communicated with Foose design and Chip was ready to do the car, but they told me it was up to the producers. Guess what, no phone call for me and I can tell you that the person involved is much more deserving than most that will be on the show. Again, most of you know about the project as it has been updated on here many times. I guess helping out a deserving kid with a real hot rod isn't as good as building a chevy 4x4.
I was actually approached by a member of the RRT about the show as he was a friend of Foose's. Chip wanted to do the car, but the producers must have nixed it. Here's the project, I thought it was fitting. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB1&Number=266430&fpart=1&PHPSESSID=
[ QUOTE ] I guess helping out a deserving kid with a real hot rod isn't as good as building a chevy 4x4. [/ QUOTE ] The kid with the 4X4 was just as deserving, just in a different way. He's a hard worker, goes to school (sounded like 2 different schools), is learning a trade, Eagle Scout, a positive influence on his peers, seems to have kept his nose clean, an all-round good kid. He "deserved" it as much as anyone else. Just because his choice of truck doesn't meet "your" standards of cool, no need to knock it/him for not being "deserving" enough. Your choice/suggestion is also deserving and you keeping a "positive" attitude regarding it might go along way. You never know, they could "choose" your kid in the near future.
The car will be done before that ever happens. Thanks to help from friends and HAMBrs. And I don't believe I ever knocked the kid that was on the first episode. From talking to people involved with the show, most of the episodes are going to be about guys that have had a car sitting around forever that they never got around to building.
I have a shop and I watch tese SHOWS, Because there car stuff, But the TIME FRAME on the proj, is total ASS A NINE, I would like to see the paint in 3 or 4 week after wen it drys down, Hopperstad Customs Belvidere Ill,
