I put my 49 on the 80s car frame using body mounts the same as C9 did on his roadster. Pretty easy actually. PM him, he will probably post the pic again.

Thanks Dirk, so you just used factory rubber bushings. Thats kinda what I was thinking about doing, but whats a good way to build the mounts off the frame?

I realize that his is not at all applicable to what you are doing, but I have been waiting for an opportunity to post some pics. These are for the front of my F1, when I channeled it I had to go around the front spring mount. They are about the most substantial thing I have "fabbed up" so far. The first hole is bigger because it was already in the steel when I got it. It is nearly 3/8" thick angle that used to be part of an old German machine.

Is the body fibergl***? If so a simple body to frame webbing will do the job with the body floor directly on the frame.
A steel body would sit on wood blocks if the floor sills are all stock and the frame is stock width.
Anything with a flat floor has no need of cushions as in rubber blocks or hockey-frewakin'-pucks, or motor mount donuts and such. A good body to frame webbing such as that used on early Fords will be sufficient to eliminate squeaks, what else could you want?

in a channeled 30's car i weld 3/4 slugs into the frame with a 3/8 24 thread and bolt the body to the frame with a strip of 1/8 rubber between the frame and subrail.

I actually bought a sheet of stall mat from the local farm store to make my bushings (its the rubber mat that you put in farrowing crates for mother pigs to stand on when they have their baby pigs) and cut out 3 1/2 inch circles with a hole saw. Bought a 6 foot X 8 foot sheet of it for $45. Put more than half of it on the floor in front of my brothers Mill and the other leftover in front of the lathe. Its made from recycled tires and is similar (but extra heavy density) to the same mat the Wal Mart cashiers stand on to keep the fatigue down.

C9 used a plastic polymer. I used the same idea for bracketry that he did, just didnt know it till I seen a pic. His looks much more professional than mine, but I can get ya a pic if ya like.

  15. Mounts are 1" x 2" x .120 wall rectangular tubing with one of the long sides cut away.
Makes for a nice channel mount with rounded sides.
Drill a hole and grind the lower ends round and you're done.
The mount in the pic shows two cushions stacked, but there'll be an aluminum spacer at the bottom later on.

2nd pic shows a typical mount hanging on the pegboard.

Third pic shows the front body mount.
It's not finished in this pic, an additional piece of flat .120 steel gets welded on so as to finish the gusset.

The cushions are made from UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight) plastic.
It's a form of industrial sliding bearing and comes in sheets of varying thickness.
Not as slippery as Teflon, 70% stronger and 1/3 the price where I used to buy it.

I also use this stuff as motor mounts in both my 32 and 31 on 32 rails roadster.
The 32 mounts have around 20,000 miles on them and are working quite well.
Way better than the flathead style rubber biscuits I had on the car originally.

The stuff is easy to work.
Cut it out with a slow running hole saw, drill the pilot hole to desired size and you're in business....

  16. This is what the third pic was supposed to be....

Yes! Just like that. Dont be lazy and just bolt the body parts directly to the frame. Simple, yet Beautiful! Thanks Jay.

Jerry cut his body mount bushings out of an old semi truck mud flap that he found on the side of the road on the way home from the last Muroc reunion.

Thank all ya'll again for the rubber I'm not sure what I'm going to use yet I prolly find something but I did like the livestock mat Idea.

How much air gap do you have between the body and the frame?

Go down to your local Farm Implement Dealer and ask for old, worn out Round Baler belting-it's tough, resilient and they just throw it away when they change it

Here's what I came up with.I don't think they are trick they are just simple and don't show under the car. Thanks C9 for the idea about the rectangle as far as what rubber I'm going to use, I know guy who ,is suppose to bring me some 1/2 inch thick rubber gasket material. I'll use that for the rubber in between.

Are you bolting the body underneath the frame mount?
It would be better to have the body resting on the mount. If you need to get the body off, it looks like it would be a project.
It looks like good fab work.

Thanks, I know I thought about that halfway through and I think when I do take the body off it might be a pain. But its light
