I'm trying to find a source for chrome (or stainless steel) acrorn nuts that have more of a point on them than just a rounded head. The ones I've put on my engine came from FLathead Jacks, and I'd just as soon not go there again.
    I tried Speedway; no dice.

    Any ideas? Thanks

I second that, go straight to the source and avoid the middle man.
Most of the cycle shops / suppliers will sell you nuts made by Gardner Westcott anyway.

Gardner-Westcott's nuts have the point - you may also buy the same nut from Flathead Jack. they're pricey - i've been buying onesie - twosies from local hardware stores for $4.50 a pop for misc steering and suspension studs (1/2-20 NF) G-W is the nation's largest supplier of these sorta things - they're the folks that supply chopper and custom shops - and will recommend you to a local stocking wholesaler.

  6. Got an Orchard Supply nearby?

If not, a True Value or Ace may carry them.

Generally, look near the stainless bolt ***ortment where the bolts/nuts/etc. are hung in plastic bags.

They're American made, excellent quality chrome and the price isn't bad.
About three years ago, 5-6 of the 3/8 acorn nuts were about $5. a bag.
Beats heck out of the Harley shop prices.

If they're sold out, find out what day bolts etc. are delivered and show up there that afternoon or next morning.

The pic shows an acorn nut on the windshield post to give you an idea.
They may have more pointed ones available.

Disregard the mirror, we were thinking of cutting these down, but went for the regular Harley mirrors instead.

Thanks guys. I found this place on the web, and it's all chrome:
    http://www.chromebolt.com

The only drawback is they don't carry stainless steel, and 12-point bolts only go to 5/16" dia. Yes, I haunted all of the big box stores and Ace hardware, but all they have are the "rounded" head type.
    Thanks again! Great forum members!!

  8. Give ARP a shot for 12 point bolts.

They have them in a variety of sizes.

Good stuff, expensive, but you get what you pay for and then some.

They do have a website - search for ARP or ARP Fasteners.

Yeah, I have a ton of ARP bolts, but none are the right size I need. I used ARP 12-point for my heads...and darn tootin' they are expensive!!

I picked up some 1/2-13 chrome pointed acorn nuts for my spring perch at a Harley show/swap about $2 each.

That's a good price as long as they were in decent shape. I just ordered a 1/2-20, cost $5.50 each.

I don't know if they are still in Minnesota but for 18 years I had a custom m/c and hot rod shop and Rennsen was THE place for those style acorns. They also had another kool style called nugget nuts. If they are still goin you can bet Drag Specialties carries them.

Well, I was surprised to learn that the acorn nuts with a point are called "Standard", while the ones we see at hardware stores are known as "Low Crown" acorn nuts.

(Nugget nuts?! Sounds like a serious plumbing disorder!)
