Ive got a miller midget welder with a spoolgun.. is there an advantage to this setup? whats it usually used for? looks kinda like this setup here... http://www.welders-direct.com/merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=WD&Product_Code=K2326-1 Many Thanks
Usually used for Aluminum. Because the wire is so soft,it is sometimes difficult to push through a long conventional whip.
cool, thanks for the data unkl ian last question... i think.. is there certain way to clean the nozzles of one of these? or is it ok to just scrap the slag?
the spool gun is a cool gadget, great score, yes it really shines when doing aluminum, also it is great for steel wire as they usually always take one pound roles enabling quick changes from .023 for light guage sheet metal to 035 for frame work etc, and there is 030 and possibly other sizes available too. which makes for quick change over and setup. downside is they are bulkier than a standard wirefeed handle, but great whereever you can use one. as for nozzle cleaning, get some nozzle dip, or nozzle spray, the spray is also good to spray around the weld area so the little sparklers dont stick, saves alot of time and extends nozzle and tip life. bob g
hey brutus, long time no see thanks for the feedback... im sure i can use this for normal welding... im thinking this setup might be good for hard to reach places, so long as the spool doesnt get in the way. next question... not guaranteeing this is the last either!! how much does a normal gun usually cost? the welder i have is small, and doesnt look like a spool will fit inside... although, i havent opened it up yet. are there machines out there that use this spoolgun as their main piece? is there a way to set it up as a normal welder? i can get the model number of the miller.
