I am going to start collecting some parts for my next build and I want to do a mid engine set up. I would really like to build a wheel stander but have some questions: if I build the engine mounts so they are on the "trailing" arms I wiil have a fair amount of unsprung weight, what are the ups and downs of that? how streetable is this setup, it seems like a lot of dead weight right on the rear end. the front is going to be parrallel leafs straight axle, I havent decided what type of body will be on it but it will most likely be a truck of some sort.
If you plan on coming to the Rock & Race at Dragway 42 in July talk to the owner of the track Jack <!--StartFragment -->Ehrmantraut & his son Toby. Look me up & I'll introduce you..Jack built & raced wheelstanders for 20 some years & his son Toby also built & raced wheelstanders and jet cars for years. Jack drove the Hemi Under Gl*** car for a number of years as well as a bunch of other wheelstanders. I know he also won the wheelstander nationals a bunch of years in a row & may still own the national speed record for wheelstanders. These guys can tell you everything and anything you want to know about building & driving a wheelstander. Super nice guys too. They have some great stories and lots of information.
the Little Red Wagon was set up like you mentioned. you've seen Dan's mid engine HEMI Stude. why not buy it? alot of the hard stuff is done and there are some GREAT parts and pieces there. still plenty to do to keep it a fun build too. would'nt take much to make it a wheel stander. wider rubber would about cover it!
