My friend needs a front clip for his 1948 ford f-1. I have found a f-3? front clip i know it has larger wheel wells but will the rest line up or is it to wide?

everything will line up the same

  3. Cabs are the same, but I think in addition to being bigger fender cutouts it may also be a little wider to outside of the fenders. But it will bolt up.

The grille on the Big truck is about 4 inches wider than the grille on the little truck. I think it takes the space up by having less metal in the front of the fenders, but the whoel clip could be wider for all I know. I can tell you that you cannot use the grill or the back peice of the grille between the two. The wheel well openings are also considerably larger and look stupid with a normal size tire, but you alreay know this.

There is an entire 48 F1 on E-bay for about $100 in California I seen a couple of days ago. Id hold out on the F3 clip unless your building a big truck. There is always pleanty of 48-49 F1's for sale just about anywhere.

If your really on short time, you can buy a whole 48 F1 from Hauf Auto here in Stillwater, OK before he crushes them all. He was selling EVERY vehicle for $400, and will have them all crushed and cleaned out by the end of the summer.

If he does go with the F3 Clip, I have a polished stainless one I can sell you cheap. I bought it for the headlight buckets and turn signal indicators, and dont need the rest.

  5. I have an F-1 and an F-3 front clips sittin here and the grille panel that holds the headlite buckets and the grille bars measures the same; altho the F-3 grille bars do measure a little bit longer and they do have the stainless trim on the bars. So, I think these two grille panels would interchange.

Also, they measure the same overall width from outside of fender to outside of the other. Only the wheel opening seems different.

    Cabs are all the same.

F1 thru F6 are the same except for wheel opening.

The big truck alluded to is the F7 and F8.

Go for it - it'll fit. I'm running an F3 clip on my F1. I use 16" wheels to fill in the extra space.

  9. ...I've seen some trucks built with the F-3 front clips and if they are low enuf, they look ok.

If you are really going to slam the truck the bigger fenders will help with your turning radius. I have standard fenders and the turning radius of the QEIII.

So, what grille do I have here?

Behind it is my 49 F1. The grille bars of my F1 measure 28 inches where the fix to the grille frame.

In the grile in the pic, the grille, the Grille Bars measure 35 1/2 inches where the fix to the grille frame.

The Headlight bucket mount areas are 2 inches wider on each side.

The total grille hangs a little over 4 1/2 longer on each side and the headlight bucket areas are larger lenghtwise and . There is no way any of this grille would ever bolt into these fenders unless I bolted the fenders to the entire grille and core support thing. Then the front would have a overall track width of a good 4 inches wider on each side and would not match up to the bed.

So, technically, I guess your right that they probably could bolt up. You would have to widen the rear fenders, or it would look retarded.

  14. ...the cream grille is from a BIG truck, like F-7 or 8, as said before.
