What's the difinitive Model A book?

I'm looking at my new roadster project and it dawned on me, I don't know much about these cars. I'm used to dealing with just the bodies, not the complete vehicle. I want to learn how some of the stuff works and figure out which pieces I'm missing. What is the hands down, best, can't live without guide to working on a model A?

 

You want a Resto book,or a Hot Rod book ?

 

for resto work, model a shop manual is handy. i think les andrews is the author. mike bishop's for rodding

 

I already have the Bishop/Tardel book and it's great. I guess I'm looking more on the restorer's side. I want to try and get the engine fired and see if this thing might move. I'm missing a few pieces, I was just wondering if there was a Model A bible that every A owner should have.

"The Model A Ford as Henry Built It" by George DeAngeless and Les Henry is with out a doubt the best book on original cars. It has a lot of " body in white " photos, and all photos are original Ford archive photo's, not some guys restored car.

 

For mechanics, two books are Mandatory:
'28-31 service bulletins, avaialable at all A parts places in small or original size reprp
Victor Page's Model A book, same sources.

And definatly order the brattons catalog (Its Free) it tells you every thing you could ever want to know. What date to what date a specific part was used.....

 

The Model A Handbook that was put out by Hot Rod Magazine in the 60s. I always liked it

Also,get the free catalogs from Mac's,Bratton's and Mike's Affordable. They all have (different) blow-up line drawing s of different parts systems.

 

Cool, thanks fellas. I've been dealing with Mike's-A-Fordable and have a few of their catalogs. They're pretty helpful, haven't tried Mac's yet. Sure is hard to stay focused on building floors in my tudor when I have this perfect, virgin roadster sitting right next to it.

 

Old thread but was just wondering the same thing. I'm not really planning on doing any restoring any time soon but had some questions about body ***embly. Snyders has a big selection of Model A books but does anyone have any opinions about which is the best for body ***embly (specifically top installation).
