I'm working on a 46 Dodge Pick up. I'd like to bolt on an Aspen or Volare IFS. I've posted on other boards and everyone tells me about their F1's or later year Plymouth. I need to know if Aspen, Volare or whatever Mopar IFS will bolt on to a 39-47 Dodge truck.

Bolt on is a relitive statement.

The cross torsion bar K member will probably be too wide for your truck, it will put the tires under the wheel opening on the fender. I had a 54 Dodge pickup clipped and the the tires were just inside the fender lip. On my 35 Dodge sedan, I had to move both front fenders out 2" per side to clear the 15 x 6 stock offest wheels.

Now, about that "bolt on" part: The original front suspension on your truck is parrell leaf springs. The frame has an upward hump or curve to clear the axle. and there is a cross member just ahead of the hump to mount the original flathead 6. The Valari k-member (Mopar F,M,& J body style clip) needs a flat frame to bolt to. Also the f,m,j clip has the front two mounting holes 4" wider apart then the rear 2 mounting holes, and the torsion bars are 19" out in front of the spindle center line. To bolt the clip on, you will need to modify your frame and remove the hump and the front cross member. Then you will have to create the rear two brackets for the k-member mount holes and add 2" to the width of your already modified frame for the front mounting holes. Once you have done all that (may have missed a few minor steps, but you get the drift) you may bolt on the clip. Then you will have to fabricate a radiator support, fender supports, and will probably have to make motor mounts because the ones on the clip will likely be too far forward.

There are several better options, but if you choose to move forward, buy the Tex Smith book "How to build a Mopar street rod". Its been out of print for several years and last i heard they were a bit pricy, but he did an f,m,j clip on a 52 Dodge pickup. You should be able to adapt the process to make it work on your truck. I have personally done 3 of these clips, but not on your specific year. I sold off one of these clips a week or so ago for scrap price, I won't be doing another F,M,J clip. Gene

    Thank you 50dodge,

That's the answer I was looking for. After posting on five different boards, and getting responses for everything except a 39-47 Dodge, I was about to give up and go get one and test the fit.
    Thanks again.
