Just picked this '57 IH up for a driver/shop truck. I can't decide if I want to just leave it alone or make the world's ugliest taildragger. Whatcha think?

well it could use a few inches out of the top !
man that`s so ugly it`s cool ! I would at least take a bunch of the springs out , that would make it ride better and drop it a bit .
till your art Morrison chassis shows up ?

I may be a freak, but I like the looks of that International! Lower it and call it a day. I happen to be watching the "Munsters" on TV right now and that cab reminds me of Hermans head.

Guess it depends on what you're going to use it for. Is it your parts runner, or project?
I kinda like it the way it is for a runner, but if I were to change it I'd put a little color on it, lower it, and maybe www's, and some different caps.

only a full kustom job could start to make that truck look good! painting it a dark color of primer would be a good start though, it would hide the "beauty lines"

Not that I have anything against binders

I'd just do a mild custom job on it, lower, paint, chrome the grill, I like the old Internationals, perosnally I wouldn't chop it, I think the top is in proportion to the body....

who needs a spare tire anyway... get rid of that thing and fill the fender! if you end up painting the grill red, please dont forget to get iron cross mirrors and make some real slick spiderweb skirts out of 1/4" rod. wtf.

Thanks Meddler57, take your time and you'll be suprised how simple things can improve these ol' tanks(they can't get much uglier). My favorite was one that Texashardcore sold a while back, red with stock hubcaps and www's dumped in front. It was SWEET! pool.

I'd definitely ditch that horrible back bumper for something cleaner, and new stance/new tires would look good too. I don't think I'd cut it up though.

Yup, hood is stock. It opens that way on either side or hit both latches and it lifts clean off. I love it, I once had a '41 Buick that was the same way.

Thanks for the responses fellas, the plans are already formulatin' (is that a word). I gotta use it to move into my new shop this weekend and then it is the first thing to go under the torch in the new place.

    Cheers

    Meddler, Welcome to the club!!!
Here's a pic of my '51. Dropped it a bit. Had ElPolacko drop the axle.
I think They need a bit-o-chop or just leave 'em be personally. and whitewalls would have been a better choice too.
I appriciate the the Herman coment.:)

    Thanks Corn Boy!
I was just getting ready to PM you asking if you put that Ellis dual carb intake to use. I saw you snatched in and old classified post. Did you put it on and if so what'd you think? Is it worth the effort?

    Thanks to all who responded.

    I didn't get the intake. I don't know who did. I am sad. :(
But the decals I got from you have helped with the recovery process.:)

Damn, I shoulda never sold my '57!!! I saw it last week at a car show and it won a "Best Under Construction" trophy, and it looked EXACTLY the same it did when I sold it...bummer.

Oh yeah, there's a pic of it in the new HOT ROD KINGS book, I thought that was cool, saw it at Barnes & Noble the other night.

I wouldn't chop it, the windows look proportional to the truck, it's the scalp that would need to be pancaked...but thats too much work for an IHC, I'd leave it.

My original plans were shaved, nosed, '49 Merc taillights in fenders, F-100 rear bumper, piece of rope-wrapped wood block for front bumper for the "pusher-truck" style. Lowered on WWW, steelies, stock caps, chrome stack exhaust pipes, etc. I got everything done but paint, bumpers, & exhaust...oh well.

Anyway, here's a few pics of the old S-110...
