Nick....the coolest cars EVER BUILT were fiberglass....and built by the coolest hotrodder to ever live....ED ROTH.

At sixteen (or 40!), I would've killed for that project, (or a dad that was a hotrodder)....you are a very fortunate young man.

Nick, I think that your car is coming along really nice. Just remember that it is hard to make progress every day. The only advise I can lend is don't get discouraged when your working hard and it doesn't seem to be getting finished fast enough. OH, and ignore all of the internet hot rod politics.

this is a memorable post. It's cool because I posted early in it and I actually know Nick, at least a little bit. He's grown up quite a bit and learned alot, most importantly...

    he still has the passion....

I to miss GERM and his POETIC chaos,,,,

i can't say that i've realy missed GERM all that much but every now and again he did let a nugget or two of truth and wisdom slip out in his rantings. :D i respect that he had the balls to go against the grain and did'nt care who he pist off.

Was it the same GERM who writes/wrote that article(s) for Garage Magazaine "Month of Sundays"? It sure sounded like the same dude.

This post is really cool, especially for a newbie to read. I've been in the custom art scene for about 5 years, but am just starting my first custom build. I have been sort of scared to post here since I don't know the unspoken code book yet, and because I am considering a glass body. I'm a single, 24 year old father, who gets by paycheck to paycheck, but I love what I do. Money is definately an issue for me so forgive me if I don't build a million dollar car, but I do have PASSION, and posts like this are inspiring.

Ask 99 % of the guys and gals here - it's not about the money and there are damn few "million dollar rides" that fly on this board. You're in good company.

All I can say is I WISH my dad was my mentor and would have built a hot rod with me. He is one of those "ALL BUSINESS" types who thinks building a hot rod is a waste of time, money and effort and doesn't understand I get the same feeling of accomplishment from fixing something or laying some badass pinstriping lines as he does when he... well whatever the hell he does. He's never really shared what he does... maybe he's a itman or something.

Anyways, I'm just saying I want a mentor that wants to talk to ME about cars too, and that is truly interested in helping me. I know I will do the same for any young pinstriper or hot rodder in the future... almost sounds like a damn personal ad... sorry sounding so sappy!LOL.

  21. WOW! A blessing from Germ...that's like a blowjob from Pamela Anderson. Rare occurance! Unless your Tommy...

The original point of this thread is really inspiring. I have twin sons who are about to turn 12 and they have helped me every step of the way on my '57 Fairlane for the last four years. They are both REALLY into traditional rodding and know a hell of a lot more than I did at 12. I am planning on getting them both their own project cars when they turn 14 so we can spend a couple of years building it and they can drive their own creation when they're 16.

Man, we're gonna need a bigger garage SOON!

Nick's a kid with a future, I knew it then, I'm certain of it now.

BTW, I taught my daughter how to weld and hack two weeks ago, she's 17. We made a TV table together, she did all the cutting, measuring, welding and grinding. I shoulda done it years ago, it was one of the best weekends I've ever had.

I'm not so sure Pamela Anderson giving a blowjob is all that rare of an occurance...

NICE! It's great to put a face with that damn near mythical name and know that he's still out there doing what he does best.

  28. You will get more mentors/friends off this place than you will know what to do with! There are real, honest to god genius builders on here, super cool people, eccentrics, famous lurkers, crack pots (me!) and possible friends for life to be found here. Like someone above said, its about passion, not money!

That's definitely a good thing. I'm really diggin' the people involved with this scene. It's nice to be around some REAL people with REAL passions. I'm just here to learn so if you want to pretend I'm your 10 year old son it might make the idiotic questions a little easier to answer...LOL! But, honestly I have learned more about frames and suspension in the past month than I really thought was possible. It's nice to be able to ask a question rather than dig and dig and dig only never to really clarify the answer.

Anyways, thanks again and I will post plenty of progress on whatever I finally decide to build.
