Hi, I am New to this Board. I posted an intro over in the intros if anyone is interested. Perhaps I can get some advice with my current problem. I bought a 1963 Buick on Ebay. The car was listed as having a clear title. The car was delivered a day late by the seller. When He brought the car he forgot the paperwork. He said He would send it on Monday. I wasn't concerned at this point since the car was not in drivable shape. What he sent was a VIN verification sheet. There was nothing else sent. I took the paperwork I had to the DMV and was told I also need a bill of sale and another paper stating where the car has been. I called the seller about my Issue. He told me to fake his Info on the Bill of sale using his buddy's name and his address, and say the Car came from Arizona. Both of us live in Southern California. He told me this would save me on "Back fees". Any attempts to contact him after this have turned up unanswered. The DMV wants an Arizona Address If I were to go about it that way, which seems legally questionable to me. Now from What I know, the title is Not clear as I was Informed. Am I correct to assume this, from what I found out, Ebay motors protection says yes, but I still have to fax them a sheet. Would this be considered a claim on my Behalf, or Am I ass out and stuck with a car I can't register?
Are you serious? This guy is a liar(a clear title is a clear title, not a VIN search list) and a thief(took your money without delivering the promised goods as described). He did not deliver on his word(and now is incommunicado). Get ahold of eBay and burn him. If that doesn't work well, get ahold of the California authorities and see what they can do for you.
First of ........... "" NEVER TELL THE CALIFORNIA DMV YOU GOT A CAR FROM ANOTHER STATE ""!!!!!!!!! I bought a car LEGALLY from Arizona with no paper work and California DMV wanted me to tow it back to Arizona for a Vin Search & title before they would even touch it. The Easiest way to Register this car is a PRIVATE REGISTRATION SERVICE. I had one do the Arizona car, Cost $75.00 + registration and took about 3 days to get paper work & another month for DMV to send me a Title. These people are the greatest ... Need very little paper work from you... Just act stupid & only tell them what they wanna here.
O/T is that place you had do the paperwork on your car one of them places that will issue you a title if the car is 83(?) or older?
I dunno what the year cut offs they have, But I have used 1 lady & I know of another some of my friends have used. They both are Private Partys & do this as a side income.... But they also do it for a living for the Local Car dealers.. For new & used cars.
Go back through Ebay. As mentioned the 'owner' stated it had a clear title and now it has no title. Request a complete refund and have the guy take the car back.
Luckily I didn't take anything he told me to the DMV. It all sounded too fishy. I Emailed him with my problem through Ebay. I waited a week and got no reply. On Thursday I'm going to Fax my Complaint to Ebay's Vehicle prtection service. I have been in touch with them for the last few days and Faxing the formal complaint is the final stage for them. The seller had 100 Percent feedback when I bought the car. His feedback has since dropped to 91% since I bought the car (over the last month). It seems he has a habit of taking deposits without delivering cars.
In a quick follow up, I was finally contacted back by Ebay. I need to fax some stuff. I contacted the seller for the final time also. If he does reply to me, what is reasonable for me to ask of him if he actually does want to comply? I refuse to mail any paperwork back to him. I have considered the registration services, but haven't heard the greatest things about some of them. What do they do that we can't? Any Insight on this anyone? I think that if he is not willing to pay any back fees or whatever, he should Paypal me the money back, including shipping and come get the car. He only lives up in San Jacinto. I live in San Diego. about 90 miles away the guy has a new Dodge Diesel truck and a nice trailer so this should be no problem. Opinions? Insight? Thanks for the responses so far
if he said it had a clear title...i wouldn't have accepted it and gave him the money until he gave you one. he may even owe money on it and theres a lean on it i wouldn't "fake" anything....make him come up with one, file a complaint with ebay and take him to small claims court the guys a liar and a con man..don't wait for his BS and promises
The guy has Two cars On Ebay right now that he says have Clear titles but then he says that they only have a bill of sale. I hope Ebay gets on the dude. I figure once I give him Negative feedback It will lower his rating to something like 83% He has way less bidders than before. I figure this will put him in the gutter as far as Ebay goes. I already got a call from them on Monday. I just failed to check my answering machine until today. I hope to have some more answers from them tomorrow.
Clear Title means just that, a Clear Title. Not a Bill of Sale, VIN Check, Cup of Starbucks, or pack of Camels... I'd press for my money back, or price reduction if you really want to keep the car... It can be registered in CA, but if it's still in the system you'll get to pay the back fees/penalties... If I remember, you can register in GA, or AL with no title using a service. Look in Hemmings... In CA, start with DMV Form REG 343 Application for Title or Registration... http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/reg/reg343.pdf The online version has both REG 343 and Reg 31 You'll also need the VIN Verified Using the Form REG 31 Verification of Vehicle by DMV, CHP, Local PD, or a Lic. Vehicle Verifier. You may have to provide Light, and Brake, inspections as well, if the DMV employee is being super vigilent/pain in the backside... You'll have to pay all fees and taxes of course... Good Luck & Keep us Posted Dave
Hopefully the car's not stolen from somewhere. Some of these questions may be better served on the eBay discussion & help boards, they have a whole series of boards for this sort of thing. Although they contain a lot of trolls who aren't helpful at all, also.
I finally heard back from the guy. He was on vacation. I'm Going up to San Jacinto tomorrow so we can have some title place take care of it. Now that the car will be mine, I can finally start looking at parts.
i use a place in temecula called CARS. if anything else is a problem you can try them. that might be the place he is using since hes around hemet.
No matter what I wouldnt spend a dime "fixing" the car till you get it straightend out. I remember a post a while ago about a guy spent all this time and money on a car only to have it taken away by a previous owner all clear and legal, cause he didnt get it straight up front. Good luck to ya.
