I have a fella that might want to trade some of his toys for some of my toys, how much would a '29 Chevy 3W coupe body be worth? I wanna know what toys to offer up. Looks to be in decent shape, will need patches in the doors and quarters and new wood or metal bracing fabbed. had a hood, no grill shell. might need a firewall. Please don't shoot me.
Those bodies are a mess if the wood is bad.....the wood was a basic cage that the panels nailed to....and there are alot of panels, without the wood supporting it, it ALL falls apart.....I paid $350 for the one I had with a frame, axles, etc...... Without seeing it....I wouldn't pay over $500......for just the body....
Agreed, If the woods not sound...save the cash to build a new metal structure to attach all those panels to.
When you see the symbol for Fisher Body it has a stagecouch-thats what they started building. When they built car bodies they built an all Ash framework and then the sheetmetal was nailed to it. If the wood is bad(and most that old are) it will take you a long time to replace it. There is a place in Ga. that sells wood kits for old chev bodies but it's not cheap. I helped rebuild the doors on a 1936 Chevy and its a lot of work and we had a whole high school wood shop to use. John
As stated already, wood condition is the "BIG"issue!!Even if you are going to build a metal structure, the wood is needed as patterns.Without it,it is very difficult to figure out body dimensions as there are few things to referance from. For wood kits try KC Wood Mfg at www.chevywood.com
Actually, he sent me more pictures, the sheet metal is in great shape, but I didn't see any wood, unles it's painted a rust color... The top was filled, poorly, a long time a go.
$300.00 to $500.00 if the tin is very nice, skip the wood replace with steel. Why does someone always give the above lame answer?
i paid $1000 for a 29 body that was a pile of parts, came with the grill, fenders, hood, the wood had been removed along time ago from the main body, the doors and trunk cover still had the wood but i have removed it from the doors and will be removing it from the trunk when i get to it, it also came with a perfect frame and front axle, i have started putting the body back togather with a metal frame work, it all about lining up the nail holes in the over laping body parts, but in the end you get to drive an old chevy and thats what makes it worth it to me. the wood from the doors heated my house for 3 days this past winter.
I pade $1100 and shipped across canada...............just cause i liked the 3 window chevs. I made steel frame for the body, beautiful thing is they are not common hot rods............ But it is only worth what ya wanna give up. Leon
Why does someone always give the above lame answer? [/quote] 'Cos with answers ranging from $300 to $1100 it's true... LOL! My buddy paid $700 for the whole car less front suspension - that doesn't help much does it?
Because thats the way of the world................ 300-500, thats not an exact amount. is it? He wants 500, you only have 300. So the two of you try to meet in the middle. You couldn't figure that out.
I traded a SBC motor for my '30 Chevy not running ROLLER, and it included the radiator to the rear end including the old spoke rims, engine, ******, steering wheel and column,(the steering works) and a complete but "floopy" body (NOT ***EMBLED), fenders, NO wood inside at all, but I tacked it together by lining up the nail holes and took my time and it fully supports itself. I will get to it in time but it is WELL worth it, not many around that I have seen. We also had a HAMB meet and greet up here and tacked together MY '30 Chevy 2 door sedan and it supports itself too. Couple of the area HAMBERS helped out with it also. Ken
This answer does nothing to give him an idea as to potential worth, which is what he was asking. Obviously, condition and what your willing to pay comes into play. I honestly paid $20.00 for a 30-31 Chev 3 window body, just this summer, that has good tin but no wood. Is that what it is worth because thats what I paid for it?
My point is, we do not know what it's worth because we aren't there to see it, nor do we know what the guys asking for it. There for, it's usless question.
If it needs patch panels and is not a super desirable body (32 Ford, 33-34 Ford), I wouldnt go more than $300-600. Like the others have siad, you should have worded the question "What would YOU pay for........"
