Does anyone know what year of car or truck I call pull a chevy 10 bolt or Ford 9 inch for my 1954 chevy truck? I am planning on bagging it with a c notch and 4 link. Thanks
Fatman Fabrications used to provide a little catalog for specific vehicles and list parts that fit. They may have that information on a website now, or you could call their tech line. Good luck.
The stock width wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface is 61 or 62 inches. I have the rear from under a '73 Chevelle wagon under mine, which width wise is about perfect. If you are going to run real wide tires with deep wheels you might want a narrower axle. Unless you want to modify the width of the axle you should figure out what wheels and tires you want to run, and then measure things to figure out the correct width for yours.
As said, the rims and tires will matter, but also the performance level. You won't need a 9" behind a stovebolt, and you don't want to use a 4X4 S10 rearend behind a blown big block, for examples. We need more info...
Camaro/nova 10 bolt ought to go in there. It may be a couple inches narrower but that will allow you to put some wheels on with a deeper offset.
Be careful about rear axle placement. I 've seen lots of screw-ups by people working on these trucks with the bed off. Using the original tie bolt location will piss you off when you put the bed on.
I have a 10 bolt out of a '82 Buick LeSabre that measured exactly outside to outside I bought for my '58 and didn't use. I seem remember measuring my '52 GMC and it was very close if not exactly the same. The Buick has disc brakes that year.
71-80 camaro,75-79 nova,s-10 4x4(2wd are to narrow). get your tape measure out and use it. toyota truck rears are cheap and strong with the bonus of 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern (ford car, mopar, amc). post some pic's of your project.
http://carnut.com/specs/rear.html Here is one of many rear end width lists on the internet ... measured this way
The original tie bolt is about 1 1/2 to 2 inches offcenterof the wheelwells. I used a 63 passenger car rear under mine.
I've used all of the above....Lately I am using S-10 4wd & 2wd. 4wd with narrow steelies and 2wd with wide 10"smwith 4.5 backspacing. Just remember the 2wd requires tubbing.
