I guess nobody has started the show, so I will. I wanted to do something different so here it is...
You know those little east coast magazines like Car Speed and Style , Speed and Custom, and Custom Rodder. Those mags had a readers art sections. Kinda like a once a month Friday Art Show.
Well, I think these images need to be set free on the web for all to see .
I will not try to swamp the show with this stuff , but to keep the thread going when needed. I got more than 30 issues worth 58-63.
Lots of ideas , trends, and stuff you forgot about . This was cutting edge stuff from the gray beard generation.

Wanted to try to get in early this time. Friday is getting to be too late for the Friday art show.
here is my latest oil on canvas, 30x24". I took a shot of it after the first hour of painting to show the progression.

  6. Dankyd- great loose feel to your paintings, man. Wish I could do that.

Here's a 3d model that I revived- put a set of wheels & tires on it and some lime green candy..

Here is my FIRST attempt at drawing as an adult and my first time to participate in the art show  Did it this week.
It was REALLY fun! It's a sketch of a car I'm gonna do...I've been talking about doing it for a long time now. Marcy helped with a photoshop recently, and it really got me motivated. slightly shortened T-coupe turned roadster...28-29 closed car cowl with a Hallock and Cad powered of course.
I'd appreciate some feedback & constructive critisicm from those of you that are more experienced artistst than me. What should I do to improve? Any obvious things I'm doing wrong or could do better? The actual sketch is smaller, and the tires look rounder :) I've been a stick-figure kinda guy, so....really branching out here. I enjoyed it and am going to keep trying. Go easy on me;)

Lookin good JohnJoyo, I like it, looks like your off to a great start.
Here are a coulple of ink drawings I got in Street Rodder in 1985. They were at the bottom of the editorial page for two months. It made me happy at the time. I got the idea for a fenderless 39 from a old Car Craft magazine. Don't pay no attention to the independent front end , it was the eighties. I also included a sketch that shows my original intentions with a dropped axle. I was surprised they even wanted the 56 Buick because customs weren't always first choice for material back then. I can't find the original of the Buick, all I got is the magazine.

    The weather here is great.
It made me want to do something for summer.
57 Buick wagon, surfboard on top and
    waves crashing on the beach.

Six months from now I'll be wishing
    summer could be endless.

Last week CustomCory posted some Harry Bradley art.
I'm a fan to. Here are a few of Harry's
drawings from Rod & Custom's November 1968 issue.

I have a quite a bit of concept art by various artists.
I'll have to put some of Syd Mead's work up sometime.
Mead is the god of concept art!

While I had the scanner running, I thought I would post this picture.
It comes from a 1953 Ford Motor Co. publication titled, "Ford at 50".
If any of you guys are book-hounds, I would recommend this book.
    Does anyone remember the car?

This book is a great collection of images and
    charming, politically incorrect text.
    4 stars!

My grandfather was a ball turret gunner on a couple of B-17s during WWII, one of which went down and he was one of two survivors. I wanted to make a speed shop logo to run on the doors of my wagon as a tribute to him, so I gave sinister on the hamb this picture of the nose art:
    He came up with this:

I love it, even though he doesn't think it's that good. Now, I just need to make it into a line drawing, so I can put it on my overhead projector and paint it on the doors!
