??? Where's the BEST selection of Vintage Plates in Houston

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by onetalltexan, Jul 5, 2007.

  1. I kinda screwed up, and popped my mouth off about getting some Vintage Texas license plates for a birthday gift (Inlaws). There has to be an antique store, junk store, or bone yard with a good selection, but I can't find one. I need to lay my hands on them by Saturday. Any leads in Houston or the area???? Thanks.:D

Dont know of a single store around Houston that just has plates. I've bought a pair from Larry Machacek, and dad bought a set from a guy over in San Antonio I think. Same guy I think Ryan used to get his '30 plates from, whos name is absolutely eluding me right now.
Best place I've seen is ebay to be honest. And there is a big collector on there that is in Houston, but he's not real friendly. Will only sell to you if you bid and buy them off ebay. I bought a decent sized lot off of him and was thinking I could meet up with him or go to his place to pick them up and save shipping. Nope, he wouldn't do it, and I had to pay shipping to get from Houston to Houston.
I've got a pretty good sized plate collection but they are almost all Kansas. Sorry.

  9. I thought you were teasing me with "tunerplates.com"...I found turnerplates.com....good selection

Sent this guy an e-bay message, I'm sure it will be an interesting response!!!

I've bought plates from Jesse for fair prices. The '66 plates should be a little cheaper.

Do you need car, or truck plates? Put a want ad on here and you never know what you'll find.

Jesse thats it. Has been tripping me up since, and I should have taken the time to use the search feature.

  15. I need plates for a car, '66 Malibu. That's just a little past the acceptable date for this forum...I goofed and realized it after I had already made the post. We just moved to South Texas in April, been down here lots, but never lived here...so I am out of touch with finding the stuff I want. I really appreciate the help, I'll call Jesse in the morning. The wanted post sounds good, but we need 'em by Saturday or Sunday. Nothing like a little last minute hunting!!!:D

I bought some bike plates from him for my 55 panhead. Kinda spendy for the plates, but his truck plates I priced for my 50 weren't that bad.
"OLD TEXAS LICENSE PLATES" (according to his card.)

If you can't find them locally you might try Gerald Thiele in Vernon. I mentioned that I wouldn't mind have a YOM tag for my panhead, 'bout 10 minutes later he walked into the shop with this. He's got a LOT more car tags than motorcycle tags. I'll bet he can fix you up. His office number is 940-552-6212.
