I need to get the drivers side door cylinder out of my 51 ford custom so I can have some keys cut, how would I go about doing this? Thanks Ryan
did you look to see if there's a clip hiding under the weatherstrip, near the lock? if not, then you may need to take the door panel off to get to it. those inside window/door handles are a pain to get off if you don't have the special tool though.
Get the one out of the glove box,, Local old school locksmith asked for it, its a lot easier to remove
If you can get the car to a good locksmith, you will not need to pull the locks. You may be able to get the locksmith to come to you, but chances are that will cost ya.
i got something worked out with the local lock smith in my town if i get the locks down there and leave them with him for awhile to work on them on his down time he'll cut me a deal, plus he knows a guy who has a nice rare tri power set up for my 51, or 50 ford shoebox custom built in the 50s. that might be for sale, the guy who owned the 50 ford might have p***ed away and the wife wants it out of the house and willing to sell it for cheap. so i want to get down there to talk to him. i got the ignition switch out but i lost some of the springs and tumblers like a jack***. so i need to get the dor lock out so he can get the other lock in the right order and cut keys for me, when i bought the 51 the guy had lost the keys.
Yeah, not having keys is a bummer. Same story on my car. The mobile locksmith thing worked for me one time when I lost the only set of keys for my t-bird while out riding one night. Had him make spares too.... Good luck with that. The manual I got for my Plymouth had all the details to pulling the locks. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Locksmith said it was the same as the doors, not sure about ignition. Not a problem for us, I got a universal switch from Autozone for 9 bucks. The original one in the car was damaged beyond repair and had to be replaced.
