Need some opinions, guys. Really wanted to hang a hooded hollywood license plate light - but all I can find is a cheesy chinese repop, and the good ones have been outta stock for two months, according to every speed shop I've called. Don't wanna hang a tube style light - too 'billet-y' for a circa 1949 build. Last option are those little roundy chrome lights from Speedway - I'd hang one on either side of the plate. I'm not fond of the idea, as the rear end might look too busy. Whatcha think? Lemme know. heres a pic of the rear (sans trunklid):
These work pretty well. Small enough to not be too noticeable. http://www.mooneyesusa.com/catalog/...=1204&osCsid=71b95f7308dac8af435a5be66af2d914 They are available other places too, this was the first place I found.
how about an old dash light i dont have a picture of one here...but my car had one when i got it....looked pretty simple and clean kinda like the moon-eyes one but older looking
I know what you're talking about - a Model A dash light. That's a good idea; hadn't thought of going that way. I'll check it out.
I don't have a picture now but I usedd one from an early British Sports car. The early MG's and Triumph's all had onw check out the net for parts and you will find one. The repros are reasonably high quality.
What your nice Hot Rod needs is one of the Large early Hollywood Karlites, ( approx width 6"). They repop the smaller later version from the 50's, ( approx width 4,5"). It's nice but the early one is my true fav. Guess the bay will provide you with what you need. Both versions is on there right now. Go get it. Personally I can't stand the lightened bolts. That kind of "BAD ***" Taiwan produced parts gives me the creeps. My 2 cents so don't mind. I just think your car deserves better. Paul
Yah - and the quality flat sux. Look at the wrinkles in the draw - they're pretty nasty. The good ones have been out of production for months; last speedshop said it may be another month B4 the good ones hit the market. the alternate is a Model A dash and dome light. Here's a pic:
I like to use a A/C Cobra tag light. Sealed up great and has two light bulbs. Comes with a black rubber seal to go between the light and the body. http://www.cobranda.com/luliplli.html
And ironically ... the Model A has a much taller tail panel ... so the light can be mounted above the tag ... much more easily than a DEUCE ...
I LIKE that! will have to check to see if they have 'em in stock; wanna drive the car next week and need the light to stay on the right side of the law.
Have the same on my 36. Found it on a swap meet. They told me it´s a MG license plate light. Sorry, don´t have a detail shot of it.
Why not hang the Model A light to be temp. legal and change to the Hollywood when you get a good one you like?
That's a Lucas light; it was used on lots of Brit cars for a bunch of years. I ordered up one and will have it by midweek.
I got one at NAPA for an Airstream Trailer a couple years ago. They look like the one on the Deuce roadster, but have a license attachment as part of it.
The roadster that Elvis drove in "Loving You" used an early 50s Mercury deck lid handle with the light built in. Looked real clean I thought.
