Picked this up from Lynnwood, Wa last weekend for $1100. Drove home 200 miles with no problems at all. It's a pretty clean grandma car with a 235 3spd. Now, I know it is a more door, and won't ever be the "cool" car on block, but any ideas for me? Paint? Wheels? I'm not sure what I want to do with it. But I'm not one to be subtle, so it's really hard for me to just leave it be. But maybe it's best. Lowered it TINY bit. Need to go lower.
it dang sure has $1100 worth of parts that would fit my bubbletop Nice score, you could leave it alone for a while and see what it was like to drive a typical car back in the old days. I sure would have trouble hacking up a survivor like that, when there are so many rough ones around for us to hack up.
1. Lower it just a bit, nothing crazy 2. Chrome lug nuts with trim rings 3. Maybe some pinstripes on the dash and either the deck lid or hood 4 Change the oil 5 Drive it. Accentuate the positive. The main "cool" thing about the car is that it is a pretty clean grandma car. Unless you want to go really deep into trying to make it something it's not going to be great at, let it be what it is good at.
I'd leave the car alone. just lower her some more and cruise.....hell drive this piss out of it actually. But....here's are 2 pics i took of a 4 door...
That sure is SWEET!! I especially like the fact it has no mouldings on the sides and rear-THAT MAKES IT ALL THE COOLER! I even love the color...dont touch that just spot in the minor fender ding there and enjoy.... Id cut 1 turn off all 4 coils...that would lower it about 2-1/2...any more and your soon ridin on the stops... Next Id invest in a set of ribbed spoke mags and leave the blackwalls...I think the wide whites on a 61 is kind steppin backwards.
This my 65' Biscayne. It was a grocery getter with a 283 and 3 spd. Now it has a 500hp big block with a 6 spd. Good luck with build!
Hey Eric, thanks for the pictures. I've been searching hi and low, and I have yet to see that one. Spiderwebs and black/red combos aren't really my thing, but that's still a pretty cool car. I dig it.
yeah i'm not too big on the color and other "details" either but thought it may be good for some inspiration maybe???
The first picture is how I got it. The last picture is after a 1 coil cut. I didn't get the results I was expecting, so, I might go back in and cut one more, and go from there.
i would go stock and lowered. great find for $1000 that thing is clean. my girl has a '61 bel air 2 dr with the sedan roof......i got it for $800 but that was '97, it had the grill and side trim in the rear seat and needed some bodywork (235 with a powerglide).
I found the kick panels in the back seat, that's it. There is very little rust on the car, it's amazing. Well besides the floor boards. According to the owner, it was always covered/garaged except for a period of 5 or so months. He made sure to give me the cover. It's originally a Montana car. He was asking $2500, but, I don't pay full price for anything, just flash a smile.
%#@%$#!!!! right in my own backyard! Keep it the way it looks- got to disc, dual master and radials for safety. nice score, you bugger...
scallops AND flames. flake the shit outa it too. at least the roof. some rattle can scallop/flames i did on my buddys 59 more door. my first attempt at pinstriping too, so be gentle...
Thats a clean lil 4dr !!!!!!!!!!!! I wouldnt suggest a full ROCK~A~SILLY treatment like the black & red one though. A car like that needs to be subtle, Like "The Wifes Car of A customizer from the 60s" REAL chrome reverse wheels & Bias Thin Whites, Lowered all around .. A lil more in the back... maybe a Cal Custom grill & '61 Mercury Tail light lens's, A lil spiff up on the interior & some SUBTLE stirpes on the dash & window garnish mouldings. A car like that needs to be Tastfull & not all Guady like alot of shit out there today. A little goes along way on 60s mild custom cars !!
screw that. i've fixed enough rough cars. if my 47 coupe had'nt been so damned rough (and fulla mud) it might actually be done by now. i just get so sick of fixing rust that eventualy i can't stand to look at it for a while (like several months usualy). give me a nice solid car any day.
Great looking car man. I agree with the others who say leave it pretty much alone. Maybe some different wheels and upgraded brakes, some pinstriping or scallops for flair.
thats a great find, i like moredoors. my first car was a 57 chevy belaire four door. i drove the 283 into the ground, learned a lot from foolin' with it, have fun with yours
nothing better than a running "donor car". killer ride dude. ole' scarebird must be in love or something to have missed that one.craigslist for a month! what a score.leave it green and cruise it.
I looked to see what he owned. " 46 willy, 78 cj5, 84 cj7, 85 toyota 4wd, 85 toyota 2wd, explorer" So obviously, he's got nothing intelligent to contribute to my post. And by the looks of it, any thread he's posted on. I've never seen a puke green 61 personally. But when I need help with my 86 Toyota, I'll give him a holla.
It's gold! Actually, it's the same color of my eye shadow, "champagne", but that's probably only important info for chicks. It'll probably get some new paint in the next month, tomorrow I'm painting the roof. Heavy flake will follow sometime in the future.
