Thought you guys might like to see some pics of my '29 rumble seat coupe. Got it out today and put a new battery in and some fresh gas and took a spin up the street and back. Plan is to get it driveable and enjoy it with my Dad and son for awhile then tear it all apart again for a, AAAARGH, Restoration.
Cool, I hope you do restore it. Wait, by restore you do mean an early hemi, few inches out of the roof, and some WWW slicks right?
Nice car, you've got a good start on your restoration.I've got a '29 RS Coupe, but it ain't stock.Always nice to see an Es*** back on the road and thanks for posting some piccy's.
this post makes me want to dig the '30 model super six out of the corner of the shop and do something with it. That things great!!!!
what's the story on that? how did it survive all these years without getting all messed up? here's one that shows up at Paso every year.
cool, i just got mine running a few weeks ago, when i bought ti the engine was in 3 boxes, the guy couldnt get it to start so he pulled it all apart. broke almost every bolt he removed. i never worked on something this old so it was all new to me. i had to have the hot box fo rthe carb repaired and braze up the manifold. when i got it running it ran half way decent but the head was cracked and the clutch was stuck. last week i picked up a motor trans and a bunch of other stuff from a guy, this motor was in much better shape than mine so i swapped it. just waiting o nmy clutch to come back, i sent it out to be relined.
Wow!! What a nice car to restore. Looks like you've got all of the pieces. That's the downfall of a lot of offbeat cars, trying to find those elusive rare parts to make it complete. Good luck with the restoration. Frank
Thanks for all the positive comments! The car was taken completely apart, body off frame, back in the 50's with only 15,000 miles by a couple guys here in town that ran a body shop. I have the plates and registration from '36 when it was last registered. It sat untouched in coffee cans and boxes for years until my Gramps bought it in early 60's. It was moved to his service station business and stored again sitting for years inside. It's all there except the seat back cushin for the rumble seat and the early bakelite type levers in the center of the steering wheel were broken and brittle. We fixed 'em with PC-7 and unless I can find better ones they may work. Gramps gave it to me when I was around 10 years old and I started bolting a few pieces back on it a few years later. Lost interest in it for several years til I got into my 20's and pretty much put it all back together the way it sits today. I'm 41 now so the car has been with me for a long time. Seems like it has more meaning to me now that I'm older and have kids of my own. My tastes run more in the traditional hot rod style and I sat on the deck yesterday looking at it while we ate lunch thinking that Hudson really got the styling perfect on that car. I'd love to do a period correct rod out of it but Dad's more into O.G. and that's really what Gramps would have wanted. As I said plans for now are to get my Dodge truck finished then get this thing roadworthy and just drive it and enjoy it. Thanks again for all the replys.
Nice car, I love hot rods, but when you find a car that nice and complete, it would be a shame to cut it up after all these years. I must be getting old.
If either of you ever get thru Ohio(Toledo)I have a pair of wheels you can HAVE.FREE!I found them in a hose we were working on and hated to see them tossed after all this time, but I have no use for them.I'm gonna be in Jersey the first week of Aug,S/X if you want them perhaps I could find room?(Southern Jersey)Drop a line if anyone is interested.
im going ot have to p***, i am working on a plan to make those wood rims and mechanical brakes go away for some 37 chevy rims i have. hey INXS, take a pic of the levers you need, i might have them, i didnt take the steering wheel as mine is decent, i think i wound up with the levers but he still has the wheel. might be the same as yours.
Thanks, I'll have to dig through some boxes stored at Dad's house to find whats left of the levers and take a few pics. Might next weekend before I get a chance though but I'll get back in touch.
im thinking my car had the same paint job as yours, there is a chip on my cowl on the body line and its yellow underneath. ive been wondering how the hell is that yellow, the door jambs and firewall were never repainted and they are black. would be cool to get our cars together one day.
Absolutely nothing wrong with restoration. Most of it is still there, there are lots of worse ones to make rods out of. Restoring it is what probably should be done with it. Besides, alot of the oddball cars don't look right as hot rods. Better to have a nice restoration than a weird looking rod. Cool car by the way and a it's a great story to go with it.
I was looking at some old pics of the Es*** in that era, they used to paint the body lines for accent.
I've got a photocopied body manual for these cars that shows all the color combos for years 27-30 ish and I think if I remember correctly (it's been a long time since I dug it out and looked at it) it has the R-M paint color formula #'s. Your car is pretty much identical to mine and it would have been painted off white along the body line and the wheels were probably a cream color. There's still some of the original paint on my wheels with some cool pinstriping. Somewhere along the line somebody stripped one of the wheels but the rest are original. I have an extra in addition to the spare. The center of the body line has a 1/8 inch pinstripe also. I planned on taking alot of detailed pics of the paint and striping before I tear it down. Are you in the H.E.T. national club? We used to be but haven't renewed for a few years now. Lot's of good info and people there.
im not a h.e.t member, they sent me the free magazine and when i saw the ages of the members i decided the club wasnt for me. maybe one day. i do go on some of the hudson forums and stuff. i like thecl***icar hudson forum.
