Has anyone took the 80's crossfire intake from a Camaro or whatever and put carbs on it ? Maybe 4 x 2bbls would work. I have one that was given me ,I don't think they worked very well when they were injection. I am only going for a look as the engine is a stocker. Thanks
Those intakes were **** with injection. Is it metal? If so, I don't see why not. If its plastic, its trash.
I have heard the design and size of the runners in that intake are not good. The runners have sharp turns and the size is matched for a smaller 305.
You could probably make a plate to put two 4bbls on it, but don't expect it to run very well. The top plate unbolts, so it wouldn't be real difficult. Might run into trouble having enough room to put two 4bbls on it because it only had 1bbl throttle bodies.
I jumped on the first detached one I saw, long ago, to check out the possibility of turning it into a Smokey Ram...alas, the box contained garbage. I don't remember the exact layout, but ports were highly constricted in a way that made modification to full head port size nearly impossible.
The problem isn't what to put on top, it's that you can only use about half the port area of the cylinder head!

Probably work well on a 283,or mild 305/307,in a light car. They were throttle body injection, before port injection was offered.
Gas is gas, Sure it would work. Set it up, Do some back to back dyno pulls and get back to us. Just kidding. But seriously, It probably can't run much better or worse than the grossly over or under carbureted setups I have seen on a lot of retro tech rods. While I am poking fun at others I'll add I plan to double the carburetion on my A when I know damn well one does the trick just fine. But alas I want an interesting cool looking car. Hence the second carb. Your cross fire setup will certainly be unique at most shows you go to which is half the point right?
I had one of the '84 Corvettes with the C/F on it. Never had any kind of problems with it. Ran great, and the crossfire deal gives it a fairly nasty sounding idle, compared to the TPI. I believe both the C/F and the TPI were originally designed around the 305, and at the last minute they decided to go with the 350 in the Vette. My daughter's first car was a worn out '82 Z-28 Camaro with the 305 and crossfire. It was a POS from one end to the other. About the only thing I didn't have trouble with were the throttle body injectors.
i have an 82 camaro z28 with cross fire. i never had a problem with it and alot of people that heard /saw it said it was the best running /sounding cross fire they have seen. if anyone wants pic to get an idea for the changeover let me know.
I've got one of those. Several years ago, we made a top plate for it and mounted a pair of Holley 500cfm 2bbls on it. Never mounted it to an engine, but it looks pretty good. Be a fun intake to put on a 283. -Brad
Why not run the Crossfire with its throttle bodies ? It's my understanding that the only drawback to those things was the computer....and that can be improved by subs***uting a later model one from a Chevy pickup, early 90's ? Because of the long, small runners you can expect good low-end torque and quick throttle response. Very driveable. That's what I'm doing.....
Thanks all ,It's going on a 100,000 mile 305 in my little lite modified so performance is not a big issue. I have some two bbl. carbs and will try that. The F.I. sounds good but I don't want to change the fuel pump ect. I'll let you know how it comes out ,so far I have $0 invested.
