Hey everybody, I just introduced myself on the new members board and thought you all would like to see my new project. It's a '37 Chevy Sedan that belonged to my grandfather. It's been in a barn for 50 years! It's in fairly good shape and will need a bit of bodywork, but everything is still solid. [Funny story about the body, apparently back in the late 40's you just sorta had to use what you had to fix things. My grandfather didn't know how to do bodywork, but he knew how to form concrete, so when the tail pan started to rust, they filled it with concrete, sanded off what seeped though the holes in the body and repainted the tailpan, concrete and all! Needless to say, I'll be replacing the tailpan!] The interior was trash and squirrel ridden, so it went to the dump. It doesn't have the original 216 in it, instead it has a 235 out of a '52 chevy truck. Apparently my grandfather was hotrodding this thing over 50 years ago! Anyway, I thought you guys would enjoy seeing some old steel. It's in my shop now, ready to be stripped down to the frame and get started building it back. Who knows where I'll end up with this project, but I must thank everyone here for giving me LOTS of inspiration!!! - Ron
Fantastic! Ive got a 38 chevy coupe Ive had for 34 years and have completely rebuilt it twice. I'm here for any advice I can give that you may need.
haha! I'm 35 and old enough to know better, but still to young to care I guess. I'll post a picture or two of the concrete trunk this evening, and as far as not washing it...well, after 2 hours with the powerwasher, that's not really an option now. Here's a picture of us getting it down to my shop and it looks better already! Thanks for the offer Lubocrod, I've got a few contacts of people who're working on similar projects, but I need all the help I can get!! I'll keep everyone updated. If you want a link to my blog, email me at swingcatt@gmail.com and I'll give you the link. - Ron
Aw c'mon now- you know he didn't pour that concrete in there as a body repair; he needed it for ballast so he could get some traction with that big HiTorque 235 motor.
Needs a little more concrete in the back to bring the rear down. And what's up with that tree? Post progress pics.
Very cool!!! I'm also schooled in 37-38. My family has had several through the years. My coupe will be with us almost 40 years now. Good luck!
Bodywork with concrete, is now officially "traditional". LOL! ...........I bet that dude who got flamed for posting JB weld bodywork is feeling good about that.........cool car, cooler story, hope it gives you many happy years........
37's are good lookin cars. Just seen one of those for sale today. Completely restored 4dr sedan, nice ride. $8500 I think.
Looks like you need to knock that crap out and pour a fresh batch in! Use the fiber lock, it wont crack as easily!
I seriously hope you did'nt trash the seats , kind of a bitch to get the right look and fit w/o the stock seat frames. strip the stinky old upholstery, Fine, but NEVER scrap th frames/springs, Great project car have fun!
No, I didn't trash the seats, however I am going to try to make something of the bucket variety work. Somewhere along the line I read that Pontiac Grand Am seats work very well in the late 30 Chevy cars. Guess I'll find out. - Ron
