why not just put dropped spindles on it to get the 2" drop.. the guy should have put a Fatman slam crossmenber in it (like my 53 wagon had with the dropped spindles (and bags to basically get it up.. would have make it alot easier in the long run

But with that said, you did a nice job and the rear looks great, really like the 3 link

Excellent Work! I'm at a Fab shop ever other day, it's nice to see something coming together and knowing what it takes to get it there!

2" dropped spindles would have put the front crossmember on the ground before the transmission crossmember. And it would still have that "negative camber" look when aired-out, which I was trying to avoid. True, if the Mustang II crossmember wouldn't have been put in so low in the chassis, then things coud have been much simpler...but I guess that is one of the pitfalls of buying someone's unfinished project.

I'm getting really close to being done with rebuilding the floor...so I should be able to move on to some more of the custom stuff soon and post an update then.

I don't know how I missed this post when it first came about but man this is some of the most impressive work I have ever seen. Bass you are the man and seeing this motivates me to practice more with the welder. Awesome work.

I'll go ahead and add this pic as well...this is the finished chassis (except for paint and air lines & valves) before I put the body back on.

Very nice. Crazy work man. Love it! Anxious to see more final pics once the body is on. Of course, I'm a bit bias.. but aren't the '49-'54's the bomb?!

What ever happen with this project? I want to see more! :p

  28. Last I heard HAMB member ERNST currently has ownership of the Bass built '49 Fastback. As for its current state and how close it is to seeing completion I am not sure. He also owns the Bass built '32 roadster.

Your not the only one who wants to see MORE. I routinely look at these threads for the '49 and pick up many ideas and inspiration. A great build and build thread.
